"Many people are saying" that you should memorize or note down a lawyer's phone number if you attend a protest and think things might go wrong. I feel like this could maybe happen at the Chicago DNC this year.

Do you have any recommendations for lawyers or groups in the Chicago area that would be good at this sort of thing and who would take a cold call?

I can afford it so I probably wouldn't qualify for legal aid. But I'm not really sure how it works. I'd also be interested in legal aid groups in case other want advice.

Oooh, that's a good one. Editing the post with that. Do you know whether they take broken bulbs and/or halogen? Pretty niche, I know.

reddit also recommended recycleforce.

I'm trying to get better at recycling, mostly by finding places to bring my stuff. Do I have this right? This is mostly just based on searching earth911, but I'm not sure they are 100% up-to-date.

  • Broken lightbulbs: Maybe Batteries + Bulbs
  • Broken lightbulbs: Hamilton County dropoffs
  • Alkaline batteries, pretty much all lightbulbs except maybe LEDs: Batteries + Bulbs
  • Alkaline batteries, pretty much all lightbulbs except maybe halogen bulbs: ToxDrop
  • Phones: Lowe's
  • Phones: RecycleForce
  • Tires: South Side Landfill and Recycling Center
  • #5 plastic (rigid): Seems like a lot of people will take it but probably nobody actually recycles it
  • #7 plastic (rigid): Seems like a lot of people will take it but probably nobody actually recycles it.

Thanks! Sorry, I still have not calmed down yet although of course you're right.

More important than being butthurt (which I am), I'm annoyed because I want to know when the protests are. And clearly the people on here do as well. So it's illogical for them to want to see less questions about protests if they also want to see more announcements.

I feel you, but nobody ever answers me if it gets downvoted out the gate. The algorithm and all that.

If people like it when I post the event, they should also like it when I ask about events because that's often how we find out about events.

Was tempted to downvote you because it's not a big deal, but I think you mean well. :)

Okay now you upvote?

When I came to you asking what protests were going on, you downvoted and gave me the silent treatment.

F*** Y'ALL HATERS! lol

I'm not affiliated with the organizers. Come on down!

Do you want all jewish boomers to be zionists? Then great, keep downvoting.

Do you want us to come to your events? Then please help me! I cannot instagram and I want to know when the pro-Palestine protests are going to be. I briefly checked SURJ, JVP, SJP, Indy Liberation Center. I don’t see anything. But that doesn’t mean it’s not there. Help an old man out!

Indianapolis cheapskates:

Now that we have been transported to the elemental plane of darkness and while we wait for the number of human sacrifices necessary to call the sun back from its icy prison, I figured maybe there would be some good deals on suncreen.

Do you know any? I won't blame you if you want to keep your secrets to yourself.

Are there any protests/stunts planned in the Indy area related to the recent escalation in Israel/Palestine?

Looking for demands along the lines of immediate ceasefire, restoration of services, protection of civilian BY ALL PARTIES, leveraging US aid to make it happen.

I'm looking for bulk tofu (* not in a bunch of individual packages *), and thanks to some helpful redditors it seems like my best bet is to try an east Asian/international grocery store.

  1. It seems like there is a big cluster of stores like that in the Castleton area, does it make sense for me to crawl around there?
  2. Can anyone recommend a specific store that has bulk tofu at a good price?
  3. I'm guessing that Saraga's online product listing is only a subset of what's in the store. Am I right? Yes, I could just venture out of my cave and search for myself, but my cave is very nice. I'd like to minimize time spent in the surface world.

(thank you stable diffusion for the image)

Can y'all point me to any businesses around Indianapolis who can mend my gloves and backpack? I'm looking for work that is durable and affordable, doesn't have to be precise or attractive.

All my stuff is some kind of fabric, not leather.

I'm guessing this would be a tailoring and alterations place, but I'm not sure: maybe sporting goods or leather places would do it? I don't know.

This is pretty much a clone of my reddit post from earlier this year:

I'm looking for other organizations around Indianapolis similar to Habitat for Humanity, just trying to expand my options for when their stuff is already booked or doesn't fit my schedule or skills*. Can anyone suggest anything? Bonus points if there is a leftist vibe.

My list so far is

  • Habitat;
  • SAWS;
  • Keep Indianapolis Beautiful;
  • Hoosier Hiking Council;
  • NeighborLink (seems a bit more demanding)

*My skills are...no skills. I've found that Habitat is often still able to find something for me to do. So I want to avoid any truly hardcore opportunities where they expect you to know what you are doing coming in.

Wait wait wait, hear me out!

I know this sounds like a joke, but I mean it. Are there any political organizations that will spam me with Indiana-specific calls to action? (Other than Joe Hogsett, lol)

My model for this is ResistBot, which is mostly about the federal level and pretty decentralized.

I'm mostly thinking of low-effort things like "call your representative" or "sign this petition," but bigger stuff would be cool too.

I'm not convinced that these things have much impact, but a) that's exactly why I want to find a way to do them without investing a lot of time, and b) I think it would be a good way to learn about Indiana issues that don't affect my friend circle directly.

Just to reiterate, I'm mostly not looking for officeholders or office-seekers. Nothing against them.
