I was going to say that

Used an iPhone very long ago as my daily driver (I think the iPhone 4... the neon green one) until I discovered android.

I switched because Had so much more choices and that you weren't locked down. If you have an iPhone you have to use Apple's services no matter what. Want to uninstall safari, because it is a really awful browser? Well you can't. Want privacy? No that's not possible (I know what Apple advertises but just because an iPhone is built to be privacy-friendly doesn't mean that services from Apple are privacy-friendly. And how will you prove that an iPhone could be considered privacy-friendly anyway?)

What also triggers me: with newer iPhones you do not have a universal backup option thingy. If you use your Phone with your right hand it is really annoying to constantly reach for the upper left corner to go back. On android: You can decide what gesture to use to go back. You can use three buttons or swiping gestures etc.

As other users mentioned, with android you have lots of choices. I for example have a Fairphone 4. I can replace my display myself without needing to pay extra for Apple Care. My Brother has a folding phone, I hate it, but there is the option.

Another great factor is customization. Apple does a great job, Android just does it better in some ways. "How?" You might ask, well, you can choose what launcher you want to use. You can choose what icons you like, and you even can choose an alternative App Store like F-Droid. And you can even choose the whole OS, like Lineage OS and Graphene OS. I for example use Kvaesitsio as a launcher, I mean look how beautiful it looks.

Until I've read your comment I always thought that I would be a good idea but now I'm all against it.

Hey folks

I’ve been using Crunchyroll regularly for a couple of months with a paid membership, but I ran into some serious playback issues after a recent update. I reached out to their support, and they said a fix would be in the next update, but that didn’t help at all. After dealing with the problems for a while, I ended up canceling my membership since I couldn’t enjoy the service anymore.

I’m on a FairPhone 4 running Lineage OS 21, and while I don’t have other streaming apps to test, YouTube and NewPipe are working fine. I’ve tried other players like AniLab, but I’d rather pay for the content I love.

I also checked the LineageOS settings for anything related to DRM content, but I couldn’t find anything.

Has anyone else faced similar issues or found a workaround? I’d really appreciate any tips or advice! Thanks!

I mean German isn't any easier: Umfahren means to run over someone And Umfahren means to drive around something

Ignore the critics

Let’s say you’re planning to read a new book, watch a Movie or, in my case, considering purchasing a new video game. I usually check review sites like Metacritic to see if it was well-received. For some reason, critics always seem to praise the worst games and shame the best ones.

I know I could just skip reading these reviews, but since I don’t have a lot of money, I need to make smart choices. Sometimes, the reviews from the users help a lot.

I like tuta.com (formerly Tutanota). The mobile app is really simple—so much so that they've only recently added a red and blue themed dark mode. Aside from that, I have never encountered any problems in my few years of using it.

They offer both free and paid plans. I recently decided to subscribe to Tuta to support their project, although in previous years the free plan worked fine for me.

For me, it was that the Internet never forgets and that you should never enter your real name. In my opinion, both of these rules are now completely ignored.

Jokes aside, I find the picture somehow very beautiful.

Good point, but still I want to play a game.

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some casual games to play while I’m on a call with a friend. I want something super chill that doesn’t require too much focus or brainpower. I’ve tried Shapez.io, but it felt a bit too complex for what I’m looking for. Minecraft vanilla survival is also a no-go since it demands a bit more attention than I want to give right now.

Any recommendations for games that are easy to pick up and play, where I can just relax and enjoy the conversation without getting too caught up in the gameplay?

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone

So I have a rather unusual fear of butterflies and a fear of darkness. The first one is definitely the fear that has confused lots of people in my life. I can't explain it, for some reason I am just afraid of them. If one even comes near me, I completely freak out. The latter is a rather childish fear of mine. I don't know why I'm afraid of the darkness specifically, but I know that I can't stand it.

So what are your fears?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently facing some frustrating restrictions with the public Wi-Fi at my school. It's an open Wi-Fi network without a password, but the school has implemented a firewall (Fortinet) that blocks access to certain websites and services, including VPNs like Mullvad and ProtonVPN. This makes it difficult for me to maintain my privacy online, especially since I don't want the school to monitor me excessively.

After uninstalling Mullvad, I tried to download it again, but I found that even a search engine (Startpage) is blocked, which is incredibly frustrating! Here’s what happened:

  • The Wi-Fi stopped working when I had the VPN enabled.
  • I disabled the VPN, but still couldn't connect.
  • I forgot the Wi-Fi network and reset the driver, but still no luck.
  • I uninstalled the Mullvad, and then the Wi-Fi worked again.
  • I tried to access Startpage to search for an up-to-date package for Mullvad, but it was blocked.
  • I used my phone to get the software file and sent it over, but couldn't connect.
  • I searched for different VPNs using DuckDuckGo, but the whole site was blocked.
  • I tried searching for Mullvad, but that was blocked too.
  • I attempted to use Tor with various bridges, but couldn't connect for some unknown reason.
  • I finally settled for Onionfruit Connect, but it doesn't have a kill switch, which makes me uneasy.

Ironically, websites that could be considered harmful, like adult content, gambling sites and online gaming sites, are still accessible, while privacy-tools are blocked.

I'm looking for advice on how to bypass these firewall restrictions while ensuring my online safety and privacy. Any suggestions or alternative methods would be greatly appreciated! (If any advice is something about Linux, it could be a Problem, since my school enforces Windows 11 only PC's which is really really igngamblingThanks in advance for your help

edit: did some formatting

edit2: It is my device, which I own and bought with my own money. I also have gotten in trouble for connecting to tor and searching for tor, but I stated that I only used it to protect my privacy. Honestly I will do everything to protect my privacy so I don't care if I will get in trouble.

edit 3: Thanks for the suggestions, if I haven't responded yet, that's because I don't know what will happen.

Hello Everybody I've been encountering a recent occurred Problem with my installation of Debian 12. When I plug in my Phone (Fairphone 4) to transfer some large files, it won't get recognized, which is odd because I do this every few Weeks and since a couple of months this keeps happening. It will something like:

Malformed URL mtp:udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb2/2-7/.

Or

Unable to open MTP device "002,086".

I've installed gMTP, but that won't recognize my devices either. I also tried to manually go to the media and mnt directory but found nothing. Likewise, I switched cables, Phones and USB Ports.

At first, I thought it was a Dolphin issue because when I switched to the Thunar File Manager everything seemed to be flawless, but now it's even occurring on Thunar.

These are my Specs if it helps.

  • OS: Debian 12 bookworm
  • Kernel: x86_64 Linux 6.1.0-21-amd64
  • DE: KDE 5.103.0 / Plasma 5.27.5
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 @ 8x 4GHz
  • GPU: GeForce 720

Any Comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone,

I'm facing an issue with KDE Plasma 5 on Debian 12. Whenever I skip a song on Spotify, the notification sound plays. I've come across suggestions in other forums to simply mute notifications, but I still want to receive notifications. Therefore, muting notifications is not an option for me.

I have disabled all Spotify notifications in the notification manager, yet I'm unsure how the sound still persists. I don't want to disable notification sounds in the Plasma Workspace, as mentioned earlier.

Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
