Then they shouldn't be able to decide to move to blusky either if they're that paralyzed by choice.

And tbh I get it, I've been debating myself on just trimming my beard for like 6mo, and that much like "what masto instance should I join" is a preeetty consequence free decision, but imo the masto choice is even less consequential, you could make an acct on literally every instance that'll take you if you wanted for free and lurk them and/or abandon them at will and remake another at will too whereas the beard has to grow for a while.

Also I gotta link this song since it's so relevant lol.

Like I said "sure that makes it a bigger point of failure, but if it ever goes down just make one on whatever server most of your follows are on."

As for the moderation issues, maybe, idk, but then again if you're unhappy with the moderation by the time you get to that point "federation" is no longer a big scary word and you've likely found an instance you'd like to move to by virtue of just seeing it on your feed in .social, and on top of that masto lets you migrate accounts even, so it makes that a lot less painful to do.

I'm sorry if it wasn't clear, but that was a joke. I am indeed aware of the existence of other email services.

Like Mastodon.social? Afaik it has been around since the beginning and is basically the "default" server unless you're a "hacker" and you're on infosec.pub or whatever, an edgy 4channer and you're on poa.st, a SubGenius on "Bob's" server dobbs.town, or one of the many pervert servers, or one of the asain servers I can't read, but if you're on one of those (for instance dobbs.town) you're joining dobbs.town and mastodon is just there incidentally. Anyone else can just use .social and call it a day until they find out they're really into plants.space or some specific thing.

Hell all the people I've gotten on masto that's how I did it, "Ok make an acct on mastodon.social, great now lemme follow you what's your name? Cool, see there I am! Oh I'm not on mastodon.social, I'm on dobbs.town, but we can still communicate like how I email your gmail from my protonmail, is normal. Now, there's some servers you're gonna want to block..." I don't even tell them about federation until they're already there, unless I KNOW the server they'll want (like when I recommended my Discordian friend hop on discordian.social instead of mastodon.social.)

The real kicker is that none of their precious celebs they follow are on there, as you mention. The weirdos I talk to don't care about that so it works out for me lol.

I honestly don't get the whole "picking an instance is hard" thing, especially with masto. "Just use the default instance, mastodon.social, unless you have a reason not to," bang problem solved. Then it'd become a larger point of failure but if it went down "well now that you sorta understand it make an acct on the server most of your follows were on," bang 'nother problem solved.

Hell I have been diagnosed with executive function disorders and I can figure it out, it's not as hard as people pretend, we've all done it with email since like '95. "It's hard" is just twitter/bluesky propaganda!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

On Mastodon, you must pick an instance, for some weird "federation" tech reason, whatever that means;

On email, you must pick a server, for some weird "server" reason, whatever that means;

It's literally no different than deciding "should I go with Gmail or ~~hotmail~~ ~~msn~~ ~~yahoo~~" fuck ok I guess there really is only one email provider now. Huh.

Because they gotta go all the way around the rim of the world man, just is what it is.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

That packing the court bit is a great idea so long as you can make sure your guy wins forever and nobody bad will ever get in and pack the court again in their favor. It's basically MAD, nobody wants to be the person to open that Pandora's Box.

Yes this is my dog Planetary Annihilator, or Anni for short.

After All, Why Not? Why Shouldn't I Keep It?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Well, I have heard some from like comedians or whatever, and maybe back when I was in school some dickhead I don't talk to would make some joke, but those are a far cry from "friends," who I do talk to. Now working in a corporate environment, no, I definitely don't hear HR bait like that ever, most people are a tad smarter than that it seems.

It could be that I'm "friends" with my "friends" because "none of us are the type to rape people" and stuff, of course. Maybe you're just hanging out with rapists and I'm not?

And when did I say I was worried about being killed? Statistically if I am, it probably was my partner, since that's how that works, but I'm simply speaking on the logistics of educating my friends about rape, it's just not something that's gonna come up like that, we're just trying to play spades and sip some whiskey we're not interrogating each other over our sexual history.

Fine that's cool, be condescending, because tbh you're right that's exactly what I'm doing, it's my ADHD and I'm too excited about this thing I just learned about to notice that you're trying to be mean to me, so it's a win-win really.

My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #3 - It's dumb as shit, so so dumb, but so am I lol. It's funny though.

Man's Best #5 - Not so dumb, pretty great actually. Space travel through the eyes of some cybernetic pets, a zoo world, and some double crossery?! We'll find out in this issue what's up with that I'm sure!

Powerpuff Girls #1 - Ok I usually hate anything based on a previous IP, (this is a shining example of the type of thing I mean) but goddamn I loved PPG growing up. Someone talk me out of picking this up please.

Fishflies #7 - This is the end my friends. Been a great series, can't wait for the conclusion.

Remote Space #2 - #1 was good, not sure I'll stick it out for the rest but I'll try it again. Basically the plot is human evolution took two paths, one cybernetics and space travel and the other FEV from fallout and terrestrial livin', and there's about to be a war on.

Rifters #2 - I like Posehn, not sure I'll finish this one either though.

Biker Mice From Mars #1 - Oh jeez, another cartoon from my childhood?! Someone save me from myself!

For real though can someone call Danny Antonucci and tell him now's the time to publish "Ed's Comics" and make all the comics Ed would have been reading?!

Anyway that's it for me this week, what're y'all pullin'? And seriously someone talk me out of PPG and Biker Mice lmao.

This weeks list! Come and get it! Big one for me:

Dawnrunner #4 - Been loving this series so far, giant mechs vs eldritch kaiju but the mechs are somehow more than just mechs.

From The World Of Minor Threats Barfly #1 - You can bet if it says "Minor Threats" it's on my pull list. Been waiting for this one! Barfly is a punk dude who looks like he got Jeff Goldblumed ala The Fly. So far only really a background character, I look forward to him getting his own series.

Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #2 - Batman's alright.

From The DC Vault Death In The Family Robin Lives #1 - I do like Batman, and Mike Mignola

Ain't No Grave #3 - Scottie Young does it again

Falling In Love On The Path To Hell #2 - missed #1 but this looks good

Geiger #4 - Super-Fallout is pretty good so far

I Hate Fairyland Compendium Volume 1 The Whole Fluffing Tale TP -The first series 1-20 in a convenient package

Ice Cream Man #40 - pt 2 of the car crash issue, the other car's perspective.

Precious Metal #2 - I like the art in these a lot.

What are you pulling?

List is out! Small one for me which is good on the wallet for sure!

Space Ghost #3

That's it lol. I was missing one in my box last week that should be there this week though, so there's that! What're you grabbing?

List is up! Let's see here..

Animal Pound #4 - Updated retelling of Animal Farm, it's fantastic.

Rare Flavours #6 - This is the end of the road. This book has been fantastic, the art is great and so is the writing. I believe it was the same team that did The Many Deaths Of Laila Starr and I'll be following these two if they team up again. Ram V also wrote The One Hand which is a great series too.

Blue Book 1947 #5 - I like cheesy alien stuff, sue me lol. It's about the history of UFOs in the US, aptly named. I already new most of it but they did teach me some new stuff too, and I like the B side stories in there. Last issue.

Lester Of Lesser Gods #2 - Silly fun

Operation Sunshine Already Dead #3 - LPOTL guys, basically vampire oceans 11, one issue after this, can't wait to see what they have next!

William Of Newbury #2 (Of 4) - Cute raccoon monk fights demons, what's not to love? Also, there was a real guy by this name in the middle ages but I don't think he was a demon fighting monk.

Sacrificers #9 - Man shit has been going down in this series.

Universal Monsters Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives #3 - I'm a nerd lol. I think they're doing all the Universal Monsters which I may or may not pick up.

w0rldtr33 #11 - Shit has been going down in this series too lol.

Whoo! A lot of shit but a lot of shit I've been waiting on. What's on your lists?

New list is up! Small week for me but that's alright!

My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #2 - It's dumb, I like dumb. I got this last week though, idk why it's on this list. Was surprised to see it last week since it wasn't on that list.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin II Re-Evolution #2

Man's Best #4 - I've been digging Space Homeward Bound, excited for this one.

One Hand #5 - End of the series (maybe one more six fingers). Been good!

What are y'all getting?

I'm kinda new to collecting but as my collection grows I'm running into an issue, I need a decent way to store them.

Currently I have two BCW plastic boxes and one of their cardboards, and at least enough comics in a stack to fill another box.

What should I do? Should I stick with cardboard for price and use the plastic for the most valuable ones or larger runs like Ice Cream Man? Should I look into Legal size file cabinets? Some other comic furniture? I'm thinking it may be worth it.

Taking recommendations or just "I do X," anything helps, thanks!

This week's list is up! For me this week:

Into The Unbeing Part One #1 - Cover looks cool, I'll probably grab this.

Batman Gotham By Gaslight #1 (Facsimile Edition) - I like weird Batman, definitely getting this and:

Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #1 - Because why not? 1890s Batman sounds coll

Ain't No Grave #2 - The first one was pretty good, gonna continue this one

Geiger #3 - I do like me some SuperFallout

Remote Space #1 - Looks and sounds cool

Rifters #1 - Brian Posehn's Time Cops

Dick Tracy #2 - I dig it, usually avoid rehashed IPs but this one is ok.

What're you pulling?

Light week for me, thankfully, since I've had other things I needed. But still one I've been excited for!

Minor Threats II The Fastest Way Down #3 - Minor Threats is great, Scott Hepburn's art is so detailed in strange ways that just give you a taste of the scenery, and Patton Oswalt's writing is fantastic. Can't wait for the next series already, Minor Threats: Barfly, following one of those aforementioned background elements: what appears to be a punk kid that got Goldblumed (see: The Fly.)

Space Ghost #2 - It's no Coast to Coast but I liked issue #1, we'll see how long I stick with it.

I Hate Fairyland #15 - I love I hate Fairyland, as confusing as that sentence sounds.

What's on your lists?

New list is up! Not much for me this week:

Dawnrunner #3 - Mechs VS Eldritch Kaiju, and memories from the past. Great so far!

Operation Sunshine Already Dead #2 - Love me some LPOTL guys.

Grommets #1 - Honestly not what I'd usually go for, but it's Rick Remender and Brian Posehn, who apparently has been writing comics since his stand up career. I loved his stand up back in the day, so I have to pick this up.

Six Fingers #4 - Love both this and the connecting The One Hand

Universal Monsters Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives #2 - Classic monsters and Ram V

w0rldtr33 #10 - This series is pretty fucking good. Honestly kinda rolled my eyes when I read the elevator pitch but checked it out and have no regrets.

William Of Newbury #1 - Idk about this one but I'm at least gonna thumb through it, looks interesting.

What's on your pull lists?

Big week for me, but that's because of some back issues I'm grabbing. As for this week's releases:

My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #1 - Looks weird, I like weird

Man's Best #3 - Loving Man's Best so far

Blue Book 1947 #4 - Aliens are fun, we need more aliens, I want comics like Edd had from Ed, Edd, and Eddy!

Bat-Man First Knight #3 - The Bat is alright, also gonna pick up a few ~~bat~~ back issues from the 80s while I'm there.

White Boat #1 - Don't know much but the cover looks cool

Blood Squad Seven #1 - Same as above

Rook Exodus #2 - Not gonna lie I'm probably dropping this. It's neat and stuff but tbh the selling point is that it shares a universe with Geiger, and honestly I'm not sure how much I care. Probably dropping Redcoat too, same reason, though I do like that a bit more.

What's on your lists this week?

Fishflies #6 - Nearing the end of this 7 parter. A kid is shot, the shooter turns into a...thing..., the thing links up with an outcast little girl who identifies with the outcast criminal, somehow this all connects to previous cases and a darker secret in the town that I don't know yet.

Ice Cream Man #39 - This got delayed like 4mo, I've been waiting! Part 1 of 2, (neither part is "required"). They're always about sad things, this one is about car crashes.

Napalm Lullaby #3 - This one has been OK so far, if this issue doesn't drop something interesting enough to keep me around I maaaay drop it.

Redcoat #2 - Also unsure about this one, though I do like the whole "historical cult" thing.

Doom #1? - I mean tbh the only reason I want it is MF DOOM. I know this Doom isn't as good of a lyricist though, so we'll see.

Sorta big week for me it looks like, mostly Image.

Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees #6 - Favorite out right now full stop, this is ostensibly the last issue, but he says he has ideas to continue "if they let him" and frankly I assume they'll beg him to with how popular it has been, so here's hoping.

Ain't No Grave #1 - Scottie Young, looks promising.

Geiger #2 (2024) - I like Geiger, but not sure I'll keep up the rest (redcoat, rook, etc). I mean I'm primed for the whole "nuclear wasteland chic" thing because Fallout (when the hell are they going to release Grognak comics etc btw?!) anyway and it's superhero-ey but new. To me anyway, so it doesn't feel tired.

I Hate Fairyland #14 - Love this series, it's just good old silly fun. The last issue wasn't my favorite, but the previous like, 39 are great lol.

One Hand #4 - Shit got real in the last connected issue, can't wait to see how this one connects to that!

Sacrificers #8 - All in on this one, let's gooooo! I'm so glad it got more than the og 6 issues. In this issue we should get back to our Peculiar Pigeon Protagonist!

What's on your pull lists?
