  • So this is how it works as lemmy is an open source no profit project that is built on the open source no corpo project and is built on donations and contributions and devs who respect peivacy and promotes FOSS software. So it is only fair the apps that complies with these ethics and policies must be most promoted and used than apps that tracks or pushes ads.
  • So i am going to post some apps and you can suggest some in the comments and it doesn't need to be good , stable or anything it just have to be fully FOSS and shouldn't have any ads or tracking . And after the thread is wrapped which will be done after three days i will edit the post and make it a list about these apps.
  • Rules
  • Don't post duplicates
  • To be taken into consideration atleast one other user have to vouch (so i know you are not trolling).
  • It can be for any device like Ios,android.etc .you get the idea.
  • and please don't troll people i have nothing to gain from this as i am quite happy with jerboa and official lemmy web page and is solely doing this for the benefit of others and if someone is trolling and you know it please do say so .

APPS :

  • Voyager
  • Jerboa
  • Eternity
  • Memmy

Drinkable for making cocktails.

Vector Pinball for a light, fun pinball game.

Baby Dots to entertain my kids without harvesting their data or driving them insane.

KOReader for ebooks. It takes some setting up and getting used to but I'm happy with it now

This isn't that kind of threaf its for lemmy apps only

Sorry, I'll have to learn the difference. I just saw FOSS F-droid and went from there

I would love to see a brief description of each as well, or perhaps a feature matrix.

I'm looking to switch clients but have a few deal breaker features.

I prefer if it has a decent built in media player complete with controls, particularly timeline skipping available for GIFs.

And columns. I continue to just Sync currently because I can customize my column layout, and even specify how many columns in portrait mode vs landscape mode.

I just want more people in Lemmy so the communities feel more alive :(

I think it has a good amount of activity nowadays, it definitely was a wasteland before the APIcalypse.

Is Summit not FOSS? I thought it was. I use sync but that is my favorite alternative.

It’s on GitHub to host releases but I don’t see the actual source code?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Does it have ads or tracking ?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

No tracking and I don't recall seeing ads

The first app I used was Jerboa. I didn't dislike it, but as someone who used to browse reddit with Infinity and liked it's look a lot, I ended up chosing Eternity when it came out (it's a fork of Infinity).

Infinity still exists to, for those who still use Reddit, but it's now it's paid (because the devs need to pay for API access with Reddit's new policy).

I just use Jerboa. Its simple enough for me.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

What are the devs paying spez a billion ? Lol

Hello, I allready tried some of those clients before, but I still use Boost. Any recommendation which app is closest to Boost, features, ui, concept, etc. Thanks.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I have never used boost so i can't really recomend the app like it . I personelly use jerboa and i like it. But anything should be better than boost as it is a privacy nightmare for an app for a privacy based platform.

? No drama intended, can you elaborate? I'm completely out of the loop.

Racoon is decent, free and open source.

I dont get it. Do you want just a list? Search on F-Droid.

  • thunder
  • muffed

  • liftoff

Or are there categories like

  • platform support
  • maintenance
  • features
  • bugs
[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Raccoon

  • thunder
  • muffed
  • combustible
  • liftoff

Non of these are on fdroid and i have included some examples in the post

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

liftoff isn't compatible with 0.19 and development appears to have stalled.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Doesn't matter i am just building apps with specific requirment and that doesn't include

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Liftoff has been mia for six months

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Maybe they'll continue develop ? Who knows i guess i will add it then

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

You may want to add Izzyondroid repo

And those apps are all foss, raccoon is on github only

https://github.com/diegoberaldin/RaccoonForLemmy

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Thunder is my app of choice. Its on IzzyOnDroid and the dev team is super responsive.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

I can only add it if you can present aource like a link for its github page or anything

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Even though i couldn't find anything about if ads are included or not i trust you so added

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (2 children)

No FOSS app will include Ads... you could just fork it and remove that part

Oh and @OP you might want to use [linktext](URL)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

many Foss apps have ads on their play store versions. I think both Librera reader and My expenses do.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Those versions are not FOSS

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

But it could mean the same for these apps too.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

In case no one has forked a specific app

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Nope, no ads.
