Ditched Windows 10 for Garuda Linux. Very happy with the decision. Did try PopOS for a bit, but much more happy with Garuda plus the customization of KDE.

Good choice in my opinion! It was my first distro on my desktop. The btrfs filesystem and snapshots helped me a few times when I broke my system while experimenting and it worked well for gaming. The Chaotic AUR is nice too with pre-compiled AUR packages

I picked it for the gaming aspect. I only use my tower for gaming, I'm still deciding what to put on my laptop that I use for all other activities. It's running Pop w/ Gnome right now but I haven't really done any research on what would work best.

I went with pop for the stability but switched the desktop environment to KDE because my mouse became unusable on gnome after an update with insane flicker and lag.

That 2 3D levels on the top panel are completely out of place. Other than that nice setup. And congrats on switching!

Do you mean the CPU and GPU load and temperatures vertical bars? I was trying to find a widget that encompasses it all but ended up using two separate ones.

I do not know what that widget does. I just pointed out that it looks very off. Can't you use the default Plasma system monitor widget with custom settings? The widget next to the 3D one does look like a default one. I think you can make it vertical if you want to.

I did not see an option of GPU temp with it but let me look around because I agree, it would look way better with the default widget.

I started using Garuda because of this video:

I've had the opposite experience, largely issue free with both KDE and anytime i update the system. Based on what I've read about Arch based distros, I'm glad I tried it for myself because a lot of the FUD I read online did not seem to apply to my experience.

What people need to remember is that distros are largely built around activities. If your goal is gaming, or coding, or graphic design; then there are specific distros out there for your needs. It's what makes it amazing, you're not stuck with just one operating system. When I was much younger I used Gentoo and Ubuntu quite a bit, but glad to dip my toes back into the Linux environment.

I'm glad that u made the switch, but I'm a little skeptical about ur choice of distro. I tried Garuda like 2 years ago. Barely lasted 3 months on it.

Garuda's KDE DE was incredibly buggy, the wifi would get disconnected constantly and so on. Also, getting any support for it (on forums n stuff like that) was very hard. I made the choice to switch back to Ubuntu. Everything works out of the gate, n if u face any problem it almost always will have a solution posted up on Stack overflow.

But again, if u'r happy with Garuda, good for u! However, it is not representative of the Linux experience. If u find it to be a pain in the ass, it does not mean that all of Linux is a problem haha.

It must have improved in the last two years because their community forum has been really helpful for me. I've had users go back and forth with me for days until we solved an issue I had.

Interesting, thanks for the insight. I actually had that problem with PopOS, it would consistently kick off my Bluetooth. Good thing with distros it's easy enough to switch when you get annoyed or tired of it 🤣
