I’m putting copy of this comment at the top because it seems not to be obvious to everyone

Trump did his damnest to fire the Attorney General but he had not purged the Justice Department of people with integrity who would overturn the election.

Project 2025 is already recruiting henchmen to fill the departments.

His Schedule F changes are explicitly designed to enable this.

He is not joking when he says that he is going to seek revenge on his enemies.

There will be no democracy if he is elected. This is not a drill.

Is George Conway really a conservative? I thought his wife was the conservative.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

He is definitely conservative. But he understands that we will not ever get to vote again if Trump gets reelelected.

Trump is not a conservative.

Edit: it is his ex wife

American Conservatives should be conserving, you know, liberalism. The ideology America basically founded.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's not what the word has ever meant. It's fundamentally not how labels work.

Conservatives are people who figure 'well someone's gotta be the king.' Their worldview is defined by strict hierarchy. There are people above you, and they get to decide what's real, and there are people below you, and they better watch their step when you're around. Everything else is theater.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It is not only how that label works, it's what they tell themselves they're doing.

Make America Great Again. The appeal to nostalgia. To return to our supposed roots.

They're just, you know, idiots that don't even know what those are, being led by fascists who know very well what part of American history they want back, and it's not kicking Nazi ass under the New Deal.

Well, maybe they like the racial discrimination in welfare programs part.

it’s what they tell themselves they’re doing.

So they're not actually doing it. The group isn't doing the thing which you think defines that group.

No alien imposed fascism upon these people. They chose fascism. They are fascists. And that extreme form of conservative ideology is never about bringing anything back - that's just the lie they tell, because it works. They plan transformative violence for unprecedented American dictatorship, and they just say it'll be like the past, somehow.

I'm saying they aren't American conservatives at all, they're just boring old fascists.

Conservatism is a relative judgement based on politically acceptable rhetoric. Fascism is not.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

'But they're not true Scotsmen.'

My guy, fascism is absogoddamnlutely a form of conservatism. It's what that label actually refers to... not what you'd like it to refer to.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If you want to argue that America has been a fascist state for most of its history I'll agree.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You speak a whole different language, huh.

No dictionary on Earth is going to tell you that conservatives worldwide stopped being conservatives when - for some reason! - they overwhelmingly identified with fascists rising from among their ranks.

And if it did it would still prove you wrong, because apparently it defines fascism as whatever America was already doing. I guess they're duty-bound to conserve that, because that's totally how labels work. Like how leftists are against rights, and the Republican party is aligned with Wolfe Tone.

Now this is a cause I can get behind.

And it doesn't (and shouldn't) stop with Trump. He's the most brazen psychopath in American politics at the moment (and potentially ever), and he's clearly the most significant current threat, but he's far from the only one.

And I would say that our future very obviously depends on not only keeping him, but all of them, out of office.

Hurtful and revengeful behavior

Severity

ODD can be mild, moderate or severe:

Mild. Symptoms occur only in one setting, such as only at home, school, work or with peers.

Moderate. Some symptoms occur in at least two settings.

Severe. Some symptoms occur in three or more settings.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

ODD is strictly applied for minors. Untreated, it can lead to NPD, ASPD, and other comorbidities that we apply to adults, though, for sure

Well, yeah, if it was present in childhood and goes untreated clinically, the symptoms may continue into adulthood, but we typically would look to further/differential diagnoses after that. I'm about to head to sleep but I can look up some more academic sources on the topic tomorrow
