I wish they didn't go with simplified ammo. I know it's a small thing but I loved having to weigh the pros and cons of weapons based on the ammo they use, and I'll die a little inside every time I unload my M16 and shove those rounds into the AK-47 I just picked up. And seeing generic "pistol ammo" and "assault rifle ammo" is so immersion breaking - and this is a series that lives and dies off immersion.

But who knows. I might be dead wrong here and the slight dumbening down might help them attract a wider audience, in which case I'm happy for them. No matter what in the end I just wish them huge success after all they've gone through.

If ammo got simplified then I'm sure weapon condition / repairs got the axe too. Wish is fine I suppose. But hopefully attachments like scopes and suppressors and grenade launchers are still included, those were great.

On ammo I'd be okay with simplifying NATO vs Warsaw Pact rounds because that's a bit hard to track for anyone unfamiliar, but as you say I liked the overall immersion of matching bullets to the gun.

I'm hoping the PC modding scene takes off because that will let us customize all kinds of things.

I feel they could've streamlined other areas instead, and maybe they have, but at the very least stick with different calibers. If they made sure things like UI makes it easy to tell which weapon / magazine requires which ammo (and vice versa) then this is really not that big of a deal, even for more casual players (me included).

Ah disappointing, building up a stash completely filled with all different types of ammo would have brought some nostalgia. The different and more realistic ammo types was a great detail to the game and a big differentiator between all of the various guns. I'd often be choosing my load-out not based on my favorite or most powerful gun but whichever gun used the ammo that I could easily scavenge along the way. That small detail definitely gave the games a more zone-survival-feel

Hopefully there will be mods to bring more realism and detail back into the game
