RULES:

I am looking for mods!

1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.

2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)

3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.

4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.

5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.

6. Please put NSFW behind NSFW tags.

Literally I'm shaking with anger two days later over Independence Day. It breaks my fucking heart over and over to see my parents heaping praise on the people who want to kill their children because they still operate under the delusion that we're the lucky few who won't get fucked by the system, despite the fact that 2 of the 3 kids would be fucking homeless if we weren't living with them. My siblings and I basically trauma-dumped for several hours after dinner and...look I read a lot of stuff from LGBTQ communities on Lemmy, I've talked to a lot of LGBTQ people on Lemmy, I lurk in some of the trans subs...I knew it was bad, really bad, insanely bad, but still...

I think what really shocked me is just how much of their time and energy the system and the bastards who support it are sucking out of them, how many basic things I (white cishet) take for granted that are fucking gone. It feels like they're shells of the people they used to be even within the past year.

My heart hurts.

Will all due respect.... What? If you want people to empathize or have a conversation you're going to need to cut down on the generics / pronouns and provide some context. I tried to read that several times and it's a word salad. We aren't a hive mind nor are we having a shared experience... so context please?

Okay that's fair. Sorry, this just really bothered me and everything just spilled out.

Okay, so I'm cishet and I have two siblings, one nonbinary (they/he) and the other a trans woman (she/her). We had Independence Day dinner with our (conservative) parents and after dinner, the three of us (me + siblings) discussed life for a couple hours after my parents went away.

It amazed me just how much of their (my siblings') lives and time is dedicated to warding off transphobes and dealing with their bullshit and its ramifications. We really couldn't talk about anything else; everything always circled back to fending off transphobes, including my parents and grandmother.

And it hurts so much to see my parents praising the people (Republicans loudly and Democrats quietly; both use the government while in power), celebrating the founding of the institution that wants to kill their children, destroy our world, rob humanity of all our resources...

I hope this makes things a little clearer.

If we all expended effort to control what other people did, that offensive 'cishet' name wouldn't be in use today.
