Pretty steep increase to be able to watch live races. Any alternatives?

Where do you live? If I go to formula1.com the price I see is €139.99 for a year. I'm in Sweden.

Wow! I’m in the Netherlands.

F1 is pricey but sadly this is still fairly cheap in comparison. The other option in sweden is via a carrier,Viaplay, and their β€œTotal” package including β€œall sports”. That comes in at 62 Euros a month!

Racereplay.net

Not saying anyone should visit the site but if you accidentally found yourself there....

I also got the email that the price will increase and would have to pay 94.99 eur for a yearly subscription. To be honest i have always thought the 64.99 eur was very cheap for a whole year, and i even got a discount over that and paid 51.99 eur.

Assuming you're Dutch:

  • It's cheaper than what people without a Ziggo subscription paid in the past.
  • It's cheaper than Viaplay and Viaplay has a bad bitrate/fps.

So yeah it seems steep, but the price is now normal compared to what i paid before.

Maybe F1TV will do a discount/intro price again right before the season starts.

Depends on where you live. But considering you get 24 live races, it's around four euros a race so less than a euro per season if you watch all the qualifying and practice. If you also watch F2 and F3 it's even less per race.

65 was really cheap, I think them finally deciding to ask a higher price after all these years of giveaways and discounts is not that odd.

I'll stick with it for now, but I will keep an eye on what they do in the following years. The alternative in the Netherlands is Viaplay, which is considerably more expensive but gives you a lot more sorts and tv shows. On the other hand, their F1 was so bad they just include F1TV now.

"less than a euro per season"? You meant session, right? Took me a minute. :-)

That aside, imagine if Netflix charged a euro for everything on their service that you might watch.

I don't think the two are at all comparable. F1TV shows live content whereas Netflix is more of a library. Considering their monthly fee, how many minutes of content would you have to watch for a minute to be as expensive as a minute of F1? In the end, it all boils down to if you find it worth the money.

Essentially, F1TV could create a separate subscription for just the qualifying and races, leave out all the talking and nonsense, no supporting races et cetera. I think that would generate a lot of users that find 95 a year too steep.

Off topic

It's Β£20 in the UK... for no live races. Sky has exclusive rights in the UK sadly. I'll stick to sailing the high seas.

Fellow islander in Japan here. I'll stick to sailing the pacific ocean.

NowTV is available and you can (could?) Get credit with them from Tesco clubcard with a decent multiplyer.

Horrible website/service though

I don't like Sky getting a penny from me. I have no idea how they're allowed to have such a monopoly for sport on TV in the UK.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They don't, it's a partial dualopoly between them and BT Sports with the BBC and ITV occasionally getting in on the action.

Agree with the sky hate though.

That's only recently. They've had football for many years before taking boxing into pay per view. It's snowballed since. I was absolutely gutted when they took F1.

Still cheaper than the alternative where I live, but it's kinda insulting to increase the pricing a few months after they announced that F1TV Pro would only be available here to existing subscriber...

I think your alternatives list is not full ( Ν‘Β° ΝœΚ– Ν‘Β°)
