StyroPyro: “btw this table I’ve been using for the video? It’s great, they sent it to me free. Watch me try to light it on fire!!”

How can you skip that?!

PS: big F U to US health insurance industry: I'm sick in a bizarre and horrifying way

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Insurance company : Oh you paid for insurance but we won't cover your costs

Finally claims insurance after months of waiting

Hospital : You have an insurance so the bill is 8x higher but no you don't need to pay all of them half is paid by insurance not you only have to pay 4x the money without insurance

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

but you have to pay the full amount anyway and go through insurance because you have a deductible that needs to be met because your annual physical isn't supposed to happen until November when you get time off around Thanksgiving but you don't want to have to pay the full non-insured price of this and not count it to your deductible when you KNOW that you'll have to pay the full cost of that primary care visit and your 45-year-old colonoscopy coming up and everything is terrible.

Sampson boat co sponsor skits get me every time

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (4 children)

I barely watched any of them, but Sampson Boat Co (the people rebuilding Tally Ho) put together some moderately high-effort sponsor segments, with a melodramatic plot and hammy acting and costumes made out of construction materials and such.

I whitelist tomatoanus in sponsorblock just to follow his ad-read lore. Thats peak advertising.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Honestly, Grim Kleapers ads are almost a highlight to me. Such a memelord, wacky and entertaining.

[–] [email protected] 62 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I do appreciate when they put actual effot in but with Sponsorblock i rarely see them. This meme still applies for when they get passed sponsorblock though lol

Sponsorblock

How have I never heard of this?! I just installed it, trialled it on a YouTube video, and it's instantly one of my favorites.

Thank you!!

Did you guys know if you VPN through Albania, you don’t see YouTube adverts?

I sure as hell didn’t until a few weeks ago.

Anyway, do whatever you want to with this information :)

Ice Cream Sandwich, Martincitopants and NakeyJakey have me going back after sponsorblock skips it, it's just so entertaining i'll take the ad at this point

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Danny Gonzalez definitely makes them pretty good too. But I feel like the original ones to make ads entertaining were MBMBAM in the early years. Griffin’s songs, their stupid ass bits? The money zone had me cracking the fuck up. That takes something special for me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Seriously, I still think about the stack soap song.

Modern money zone isn’t nearly as good, but I still don’t skip it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I’ve been going back through early MBMBAM lately. Goddamn, it was pretty much peak podcasting. I stand by that. Early-mid harmontown, early-mid MBMBAM, maybe the first two seasons of My Dad Wrote a Porno, and maybe the first few seasons of Slow Burn. The best podcasts have to offer, I think.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Also Hello Internet (RIP).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I do this for tomatoanus skits as well, those are usually pretty off the wall. My man has an entire storyline saga going on in his ad read sections.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

you can whitelist channels in sponsorblock

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

MiniMinuteMan did a bit where he just juggled while talking about the sponsor and you know what, it fucking worked on me. Jangle those keys for me.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Big Money Salvia on Internet Comment Etiquette makes full on short films for his ad reads. They are pretty great.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

I was going to post Erik, if no one else did. His ads are so good.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Nobbleberry is my favorite show.

For Internet Historian it's a highlight.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah too bad his videos are plagiarisms of other people's work

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I was really bummed to find this out along with all the nazi signposting that slipped past me because I couldn't hear the dog whistle, he might be the only creator I've ever actually gone and unsubscribed to. Shame, too, because some of those videos were actually really good, credit where it's due (even if that credit isn't due to IH himself).

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Nazi signposting? Any examples specifically? Gave up on IH after the plagiarism deal, and I know some of his earlier content tends to lean on the edgier side of things.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Best source is a reddit link, sorry.

I thought going in that people had to be overreacting about it, I know he's a bit edgy and pretty clearly grew up on 4chan but it couldn't be that bad.

Nah, it's pretty bad.

The only creator I'll disable SponsorBlock for

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

'TomSka and Friends' has good enjoyable ads. They generally only have the one sponsor (Surfshark VPN) but they've done a lot for pushing for more enjoyable ads. Their off the rails skits are ones I don't skip

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I loved his video complaining about his search for surfshark's limit on ads, going insane in the process, not finding it, and then just doing a deadpan delivery of surfshark at the end.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Even though he reuses a particular gag format in his ad segments, I do like TheWhyFiles ads

[–] [email protected] 78 points 5 months ago (3 children)

me using SponsorBlock: what ad?

[–] [email protected] 43 points 5 months ago (5 children)

TIL about SponsorBlock and DeArrow, just wow!

This line from the website made my day: There are currently 452.934 users who have submitted 17.125.673 skip segments, which have saved a total of 4185 years and 4.84 days of people's lives.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 5 months ago (5 children)

I forgot that periods are used in some places instead of commas for thousands and was wondering how you could get 0.934 of a person

For some reason though its written as 4.84 instead which I thought should be written as 4,84?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

Sound about right.

Squire's ads are better than the actual vids of some other YTers...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Bringus Studios had a video yesterday on the alpha I Dec kit for the original devkit. Not only was the segway pretty slick but it had his signature humor included which actually made me watch through half the ad. First time I didn't skip the sponsor which I think says something about his writing and delivery

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Oh, sick, new Bringus post? I'll be in my bunk.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Acerola has cat videos on the side while he talks about his sponsor. I have sat thru it to watch the kitty.
