Another lean fortnight. Going to have to be creative with the food I have.

Thank gos for frozen mince though. Means I can have pasta for a week at least.

Also no zombie movies before going to bed tonight.

Absolutely hate the dark and the cold just sucks the energy right out of you. Can't help but wonder how folks in the far north in the artic deal with it where some days the sun barely rises.

Sunset in northern Europe (London etc) during their winter solstice is like 4pm. Now that's depressing for living in a major city, don't think I could handle that.

Miss Seagoon spent some time living on the Arctic Circle. She kept to a clock timetable, kept busy and enjoyed the auroras.

Hi everyone - thank you again for all your good wishes. This means a lot to me.
Home again after a marathon opshoppery - haul includes: two (two!) gucci sweaters in my size, one black one blue. Some tailored winter wool trousers in black. All in good nick. Am sorted this winter and probably next. A rather beautiful carnival glass ashtray which I will use as a housekeys dumpspot. Some nice costume jewellery - a brass chain necklace of thin ceramic plaques hand painted with autumn leaves, a brooch made from a small turtle shell (sans turtle) with I think gold fittings and a couple of rock crystal necklaces that I am going to repurpose at some point in the future. I do like Reservoir for opshoppery, and Essendon is stupendous - I had no idea the opshops were so good there. Definitely worth a trip out to that part of town. Fitzroy & Collingwood and Thornbury were all a bit disappointing.

Niiicely done!! So glad you found some winners!

Thank goodness for incompetent pickpockets. Grrr!

Not much to tell. Bloke tried to go my handbag near Savers, fumbled it, then bolted too quick for me to thump him.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Another reason not to leave the house.. yikes.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That would have me realing for days

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Iโ€™d be a wreck if it had worked. The resultant paperwork and telephone calls would be overwhelming.

Love it when the fix for a PC issue is "go to the BIOS", when the issue is the PC won't even load to the point that BIOS is an option. Partner's 10 year old PC is basically dead (thinks it needs to load from a USB, when it doesn't and never has), so mine is now The Family Computer.

Which is fine for now, I'm addicted to Slice'n'Dice on my phone anyway lol

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You could roll with that and load it from a Linux usb? That might at least let you grab any files off it

Someone here probably knows the process better

I installed a new HD about 18 months ago, and am using the old one as storage. On the weekend, the boot sequence changed somehow from my new SDD to my old one and my PC wouldn't boot. I changed the boot sequence in BIOS to start with the new HD, and still nothing. I gave up and was ready to boot from a windows disk. Problem was, I only have two power cables, and both were being used by the hard drives. So I unplugged the old one to plug into the CD drive.

Reboot and the PC booted using thew HD. I have no idea why the boot protocol changed and why it wouldn't let me prioritise the new HD.

Ain't touching it again.

You can usually find a good deal on Ozbargin for some second hand business gear. My laptop cost me 300 bucks and honestly its a gem of a machine to use. Something like thiswould be a huge upgrade over a 10 year old machine.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Even first-hand! My current laptop is a beast that I guess got rejected from a big tech company (still had their name on the shipping label underneath). Brand new and more than 50% off RRP. Only downside is it's polycarbonate and I'm use to fancy metal but I had to snap it up.

Finished the day early. Too tired ๐Ÿ˜ด could stay and click buttons but I'd be so slow and make mistakes better to go home and rest.

Edit. I did manage to sneak in my lunch break before calling it though. Had Vietnamese boat noodles for the first time. Omg I was blown away. The broth is thick and so flavourful - it has pork blood in in it. Lots of delicious meaty goodies and some rice noodles. I am a big fan of all things noodle-soup, and this might be my new favourite honestly. Yes I'm including ramen and pho in that list

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Where are these magic sounding noodles from? I feel like I've been meaning to try boat noodles for so long, but never really spot them on a menu. I've even been to Soi38 and managed to miss them!

I'm phenomenally sleepy today. Normally I'm not on my phone at work but I simply cannot summon any enthusiasm or concentration whatsoever. Holiday mode hit me too hard.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

I know it's cold, I know there are germs out there but I am stir crazy and need a walk. Will wear a coat and mask.

Has anyone here had experience bringing a bunch of Facebook pages under the one Business Account? I'm working with a business that's trying to sort out all the pages for their sub-brands, but some just aren't moving across. If I can get this sorted for them I might be able to pick up some extra work with them further down the line.

I'd ask somewhere else but I can't find the right place on Lemmy to ask

The day I don't spill a bit of my coffee on the floor is the day I have died.

I am the Supreme Ruler and Queen of Unco and Mysterious Bruises.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

I too would be in this family. Perhaps Grand Empress of Doorknobs

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Mysterious Bruises

hehe that reminds of my early raver days.

wake up inspecting the damage... "hey I didn't do that wot happened there".

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I would be Princess Royal in this family

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

That would make me the Crown Princess?

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Finally starting to feel a bit better - still coughing up a lung, but my sinuses feel clearer. Some energy today, but I notice it runs out - got to be careful to not overdo it.

Without fail, everytime I've got an appointment for a haircut, it's cold and raining. Sorry everyone ๐Ÿ’ˆ

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The fact that you have appointments for haircuts tells me you patronise a higher class of barber than I. I just walk in.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

It's the one thing I splurge. Fade and a beard trim. I'm too embarrassed to say the price but it does look awesome.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

laughs in self trims
