Thai comrade here.

We consider the monarchy issue as something to be consider after getting rid of west-influenced capitalist. The royal family is one huge contradiction by the virture of both being based as fuck and being the fucking monarchy at the same time (Unsurprisingly, consider the previous king openly stated to have Tito as idol). If it's confusing, don't worry, you're not alone. The now-defunct Communist Party of Thailand also couldn't make up their mind on this issue.

Just curious, how is the monarchy based other than the Tito thing?

Every monarchy in the world today is a protectorate of the British or Americans.

I'm not kidding.

I don't think outsiders should interfere much in this situation, as it can easily backfire and feed a nationalist reaction. I do however think that internally, people should agitate to end the monarchy. Even if as some commentators point out, the monarchy is presently a stumbling block for western liberals, it can easily change allegiances and is not a reliable partner. Thailand is for example, currently looking to join OPEC (alongside BRICS it seems, trying to play both sides).

Like other monarchies (Saudi Arabia), they are basically being opportunistic, and it just so happens that the winds of history are currently blowing in favor of China. I believe that in a serious confrontation between the West and China, monarchies will be very unreliable partners and could even be subverted by the western powers. That's not saying that a republic will behave better, or even have a rational leadership (ex - India), but the revolutionary momentum generated by abolishing the monarchy will probably win the workers some concessions and likely improve the governance of the country for a while.

Monarchy is one of worst forms of governance. The Royal family will flaunt more luxe stuff that everyone can't afford of them.

At the moment they appear somewhat of an obstacle to full takeover of Thailand by western backed liberals, at least judging from how much propaganda and political agitation is coming from the NGO ecosystem in Thailand against the monarchy.

But as we all know monarchies are fickle and opportunist, and if the West courts or bribes them enough the US may well get what they want anyway from Thailand, monarchy or no. So short term they are at best a stumbling block for the imperialists.

Long term it's up to the Thai people to decide what should happen to the monarchy. We don't get a say. But as a communist i firmly believe that monarchies belong in the dustbin of history.

Same as any other monarchy. Off with their heads.
