I think that's the guy who popularized Alfredo pasta. There's a great episode of Max Miller's "Tasting History" about it (YouTube).

In Italy, it is considered to be a sign of great respect to receive the esteemed family hand pasta and a symbol that one has been accepted by the tribe.
