Iran has been attacking Israel by funding terrorist groups (Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, etc) since the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979.
It's was a war. Israel won.
Every single country that exists today took over the area of another group or people, or split off from a country that did the same.

1945-6 probably.
This is why the Russian belligerent attack on Ukraine started with a lot of staged "we want to secede and join Russia" votes. The UN hates a war but can be fooled into supporting the will "of a people" to secede.
And then that didn't work. And so Russia needed to activate plan-b as planned.
