Try pairing it with Minsc as a STR/DEX Hunter with the Punch Drunk Bastard, Titanstring Bow, and Gloves of Belligerent Skies. You get better than the equivalent of 6th lvl Call Lightning as an attack.
Also Ascending the Tadpole in Act 1 (Monastery) means you can Haste the damage (Minsc in my earlier example) rather than Tav as Black Hole will become a Bonus Action.
Wait, what do you mean by "ascend the tadpole act 1"?
If you put your MC into the Zathisk rather than Lae'zel and pass all three saving throws your tadpole ascends allowing you to use your Illithid powers as a bonus action rather than action.
Okay I didn't even know you could get that ability from the monastery, I swear the amount of stuff to find in this game is ridiculous. Also I really should use Minsc sometime, always get him too late to use him much. Next run I'll get him before the other companion quests and bring him along to go smack some vampires.
If you're having fun with the black hole ability, make sure you keep an eye out for void bombs early game on you next play through.
Yeah I really need to use consumables more, I remember the void bombs from my first playthrough but since then they always just end up sitting in my inventory along with every other consumable in the game except for the one or two times I remember speed potions exist.
Yeah it's weird. It's really easy to forget to use your consumables in this game. It tries to help you out by automatically throwing them in your hot bar, but once the section on the side gets filled up and you get used to ignoring what's there you may as well stop picking shit up
