"We'll get rid of this tax!"

"Won't that mean less money in the pockets of the majority, making things worse for them?"

"๐Ÿ˜ก"

Not if they cut funding to things like healthcare, infrastructure, science, education, etc. and give more money to corporations who donate to their political party.

We're talking about the carbon tax, what's collected in your province (except for BC and Quebec) is redistributed directly to the people in the province based on their household situation (with or without spouse, with or without child...), it doesn't affect the government's coffers and a small minority gets less than they pay.

Are you a grade 2 graduate or what?

Would you like to expand on your views or just stick to pointless ad hominems?

[โ€“] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago

Hmm...odd, that comment wasn't an ad hominem, it was pointing out how the federal tax actually works by region.

I guess I went to school longer than most conservatives!

Still can't count, apparently.

Step 1: Add a tax

Step 2: Redistribute the money collected directly to the people based on their situation

Step 3: Watch conservatives get mad even though the vast majority of people get more than it cost them

Yes, yes, tax people in saskatchewan and refund money to newfoundland. Give a break on home heating to places that vote liberal. Piece of shit.

[โ€“] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago

No money is moving from Saskatchewan to Newfoundland via this carbon pricing model.

Who suggested to you that it was? I'm worried someone is lying to you to sway your opinion.

The money collected by the carbon pricing program stays in that province and is redistributed to the citizens of that province.

Alberta just banned solar and wind farms because they are 'ugly' then opened a new coal mine. They deserve some more taxes.

That's cute. Why is home heating fuel in the east not taxed?

[โ€“] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

It's not taxed no matter where you live, it just mostly concerns people in the Maritimes that's why the focus was put on them.

As for why, because it's more effective to just pay for an heat pump for these people than to charge a tax to try and incentivize them to get rid of their fuel system because with or without the tax, they can't afford to pay the cost to change it. And that's exactly what the government did, free heat pumps for people in the Maritimes so they get rid of their inefficient and polluting system or just keep it as a backup.

Not really, though. His main purpose is to keep both the carbon tax and his own name in the headlines, so I guess he succeeded.

It will also let him say his party voted to axe the tax, while the NDP, Liberals, and Bloc either vote for it, or abstain. It's a purity test the other MPs are designed to fail.
