Which countries? I skimmed the article and didn't see a mention.

Asking because it is very much not visa free for Russian citizens, despite, ya know, all the political theatre

It is kind of surprising that China still doesn't allow visa free travel from Russia to be honest. And found the list of countries, amusingly Belarus is on the list.

So I guess there are limits to our professed "unlimited friendship"

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It appears China and Russia are visa-free for each other's tour groups since 2023.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

That's funny, because I have specifically went looking for tours to China after reading this article (and again after reading your comment) and the visa requirements are there. There are supposedly some caveats: for example if one is flying transit through China, visiting Shanghai via a cruise ship or have residence permit.

Although I suspect you correct, judging by the amount of Chinese tourist groups in Moscow and Petersburg

Yes there are, the alliance is purely pragmatic due to geopolitical circunstamces. Ideologically russia is aligned with the west, but for some reason the current oligarchs in the west haven't moved on from cold war russophobia.

Putin constantly says so too. "we are as bourgeois as you, there is no communist party power here, let's negotiate."

Then again, it might just be lack of infrastructure to handle tourism coming from russia.

Vassal state, unlimited friendship, same difference!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Why would say something like that about a country you know nothing about?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

It's alarming how quickly libs have gone from "Russia is the big existential evil in the world seconds away from destroying everything" to "actually Russia is a mindless puppet controlled by China!" Literal nazi propaganda with the names replaced. Terrifying.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Nothing huh? Maybe I'm wrong, just ignorant, but we'll see what Russia's future holds I guess.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Or you can read their history from the 90s - present. Probably much quicker that way.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

An interesting question is which side didn't want to have visa free travel. Entirely possible that the Russian government didn't want to make travel to China too easy.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It should be noted that Russia isn't marinated in sinophobic propaganda like Europe is. If combating that is part of the reason for increasing European visitors then it makes more sense.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

I agree, nothing cuts through the propaganda like people actually visiting and seeing the country with their own eyes. I wonder if this might also cause brain drain from Europe as economic situation continues to deteriorate.

Bring a burner phone and leave your laptop lol

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (4 children)

Unless you have CSA material, why would you bring a burner phone? You're kinda telling on yourself.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

I’d use a burner phone, not for travel to the PRC or because of CSAM, but for travel among western states. Every accusation is projection for them.

The last thing I need is some customs agent cloning my phone and arresting me over something like being a marxist, pirating, or just having made comments about their politicians.

It is standard procedure to at least wipe all devices before traveling to China for any major corporation because of corporate espionage and malware.

They have a well earned and well known reputation for this going back decades.

Never mind all the other messed up shit they do on the regular to people they accuse of being a "dissident".

Your response is fucking insane and pretty telling that your mind went straight to child porn.

Youre collecting data and transmitting it to the greatest surveillance group in history, the US government (and you aint even gettin paid), and youre more concerned about a country like China that is surrounded by US military bases and fleets? You do you.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Fun fact: More than one thing can be bad.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Whatever you say, fart.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

They probably think "the SEE SEE PEE will hack your phone and steal all your data the moment you step in the country!!" lmao

Quickly checked a travel agent here and it's around €2.5k per person for a ten day plan. I wonder how much I could bring that price down if I were to arrange it all myself. Kind of scary to do it myself though, booking hotels etc. while being clueless.
