I took a class called Philosophy of Race once. The professor said something that has stuck with me since: "Race doesn't exist, but racism sadly does." A lot of the class was deconstructing the concept of race by showing how difficult it is to define.

White or fair skinned people have more colors in their skin than dark skinned people. Also some white people are darker than supposedly "colored" people. The whole thing seems nonsensical.

I've met "whites" of nearly every skin tone. From bright enamel white to a pale peach to lobster red to a very brown Portugoose who was so tanned her skin was darker than that of most of the black people we were with.
All racial theory is bollocks, but the idea that there is a white race is the stupidest part of all.

I find fascinating how skin color is very obvious to eveyone but is incredibly difficult to get right when painting.

It's the undertones. Whites have an undertone of blue/red that's hard to get quite right if you just focus on the surface color. Learning about makeup helps.

It’s the green that everyone misses. Skin has a greenish undertone, a lot of the time.

In Liberia, the Black American settlers were labeled as "white" by the indigenous peoples, who were in turn labeled as "bush n***ers" by the settlers. Which I guess means that the spectrum of "white skin" runs in fact from pale to dark depending on the exact context.

Wow, who knew that race was a bunch of socially constructed BS?
