Summary

Germany is monitoring U.S. detentions of its citizens after three Germans were recently held by immigration authorities.

Two tourists were detained at the Mexico-U.S. border and later deported, while a Green Card holder, Fabian Schmidt, remains in custody in Rhode Island.

The German Foreign Ministry is assessing whether these cases reflect a broader policy shift under President Trump, whose administration has intensified immigration crackdowns.

Germany may adjust its travel advice based on further developments. U.S. officials have not clarified why Schmidt was detained.

There's already a low-key travel warning for trans and intersex people in place because the US's stance on passports having sex entries not matching the birth certificate, or being anything but M or F, is unclear at best. Advise is "get the US embassy to sign off on your papers before trying to enter". This might amount to a total ban: If your birth certificate says X and they're not accepting X passports and neither ones which don't match the birth certificate then there's no kind of passport they do accept.

(Didn't read the article)

You're being detained by a foreign state and your country gets your back by "adjusting traveling recommendations"

haha I'm sure Germany is acting here but the summary reads funny

It will take the world a while to move away from the US. It's built itself as a relatively trusted, albeit flawed, nation to all the major western powers.

It's sad to see the destruction of my country's reputation, sadder to see 50% of the population take pride in it. I'd leave if I could

+36%, dont forget the ones that didnt care to vote at all! (or -36% depending on how you see that group)

Yeah those 36% are in for a rude shock when it finally smacks home to them what is actually happening. Makes me wonder if all the content that is out there has essentially pushed politics aside. Whereas before all the easy access to social media or when it was limited to a couple there was still time in the day to catch the news etc.

See, the mistake these German visitors are making is that they aren't Nazi-era rocket engineers. If they just fit into that category they'd be welcomed with open arms.

I an equally intolerant towards what's happening as European. (also im veeeery progressive)

But isn't calling them fascists more adequate? Since n%*zis were distinct to an ideology vs jews for example.

I see that mr bust did the salute, but I've also seen an article about a neo fascism group called dark enlightenment. That should be the group we're talking about here.

Curious how you guys see it

They are every bit as anti-Semitic as Hitler was, they just want to use the Jews to being on the end times.

isnt trump administration funding israel and are approving of the current government?

The connection between Israel and the entirety of jewish people is zionist at best and antisemitic itself at worst.

Not all jewish people have a connection, let alone are in favour of Israel, nor has Israel any right to speak for all jewish people. Add to that, that the current far-right israeli government is not supported by or representative of all israeli citizens and maybe you can see why not all criticism of Israel or its current government is antisemitic, although a lot of antisemitism likes to hide behind criticism of Israel and the current israeli government.

In the same way it's absolutely possible to be antisemitic and still support the current israeli government as well as funding Israel.

If the current US government are Nazis or if the more broad term of Fascists should apply is debateable however, imho fascist is the more accurate term, if only because it has broader application for the very broad coalition of far-right authoritarians in the US.

And they also regularly engage in antisemitic dogwhistles like claiming Soros is secretly funding things, etc. The nature of modern far-right political movements is that competing prejudices often get switched out based on context. So their antisemitism competes with their islamophobia. And the evangelical Christian zionists in the Trump regime basically believe that Jews in Israel will either convert to Christianity or be wiped out as part of their end-times ideology. So even their support for Israel only really sees the Jewish people of Israel as objects in their dispensationalist ideology.

Hitler also supported the creation of a Jewish colony to remove them all from Europe. That's why the Holocaust was the "Final Solution", because Hitler tried to solve "the Jewish Question" various ways throughout the 30's.
