Today is International Womens Day. This day is on March 8th to remember 15000 women going on a strike in 1908 in New York's textile industry. It sparked years of union actions demanding better wages, better conditions and the end to sexual harassment at the workplace.

Next year, I'd like to be able to prepare for it. Give some women small gifts I suppose. As Terry Pratchett says you can only add to traditions. What can we do to make International Women's day explicitly about our women workers? Have your local union or communist party do a presentation on women's labor presented by women?

At one of my previous jobs I worked with a lot of women who grew up in former Soviet republics and they expected their husbands to make a great effort for the day lol. Flowers, a gift, cooking a meal, whatever. They took it very seriously.

I don't know if going around gifting your coworkers something would be that much appreciated. Maybe a flower or something? I guess it depends on how good your relation is with your coworkers.

Over here the Union had several actions on different locations. I work at the union actually and my department has lots of women working in it, but it wasn't too special during the day. I did walk into a protest of theirs happening when I went to a bar afterwards with my gf.
