Contra is back. A real, honest, bitching 2D Contra.

Played the demo multiple times and it really gets the 'Contra' right, one of my main griefs with wannabe Contra clones.

Already a personal game of the year contender for me!

Never played Contra 4, just the NES Contra and Super Contra, is Contra 4 worth to play?

I have to admit I did not even notice that there are no sprites. What the demo totally nailed are crisp controls, pacing and mostly level design. (Mostly, because my nit picks would be, that the weapon pods/upgrades use the same red as the enemies, which makes them hard to see sometimes, and even in Arcade mode there are some animations (helicopter crash, boss on top of the waterfall) which are so long they break the flow, a little bit too easy for a Contra.

Still, I am looking forward to next Tuesday!

Contra 4 is definitely worth it, however, it makes heave use of the dual screens and it has never left the DS platform. However, the gane looks and plays great, plenty od challenge missions and unlockables. If you can play it on a DSi XL it is even better.

I was thinking the helicopter crash scene would lead to a mid boss or some other thing in the final game. The boss animations are like that in contra 3, 4 and hard corps so those are probably tjere to stay.
