oh cool, do they last that long? I just assumed they would die off at the end of the season.

2-3 years until the viruses build up and kill them. They winter over just fine if you mulch them, or let Mother Nature do the mulching. Also, by the end of 2 years, all the local slugs & snails have them logged on their google maps so fruit quantity drops off dramatically unless you feel like being snailicidal.
