The US election system is so fucked up (by design) that it's kinda funny that the dems would be more successful if they tried to move more to the right than they already are. A shit ton of people in the US already think Kamala is too far left (somehow) so moving more right would literally get a lot of their vote because there's a good amount of right-wingers who don't like Trump. Plus, if you convince some republicans to vote democrat it's like you're getting two votes (you get one vote, and republicans lose one).
Edit: I appreciate the replies, honestly I'm not in the correct mindset to make comments and think today. Sleep schedule is all messed up and I did not think my thoughts through here lol
this was the exact strategy the Democrats just lost every branch of government with
yeah how are the racist conservatives that kamala was trying to appeal to going to support a black woman over the funny cheeto man? the obvious answer is they wouldn't, and they didn't. kamala needed to be a candidate who could appeal to people who didn't have those biases at the bare minimum. of course she was not
