I am a critic of religion. However, I believe that Saul (i.e. Paul) said it best.

And now faith, hope, and love remain, these three, and the greatest of these is love. - 1 Corinthians 13:13

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
