Well, honestly if someone can't contextualize tone on a forum they shouldn't be in a position to threaten mod actions. It's pretty important to be able to read things correctly.
The moderator explained it to you very clearly.
Your sentence, will not having an outright insult in it, did diminish the other person's experiences and perspectives.
If you can have a conversation with people without insulting them directly, or diminishing their opinions and taking them at face value you will get better engagement and have better discussions.
