Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

I apologize but I'm going to rant at you specifically, but this applies to everyone who makes comments like this.

Shut the fuck up.

No one fucking cares that you don't want to see the movie.

Just skip it. Thousands of films are made every year and some of them are going to be remakes, reboots or sequels. Tough shit, deal with it.

Plus films like this can lead to new films. The MCU may be a genre of "Superhero" films, but from those we get new ideas. Guardians of the Galaxy? Do you think that film gets made without the rest of the MCU behind it? Or The Suicide Squad. Do you think DC greenlights that film without trying to build a universe? How about TV shows like The Boys or Invincible? Do you think those get made without the endless Superhero movies?

Whatever film you're looking for, it exists, go watch it. If this isn't for you then fuck off and shut the fuck up.

Wow... This is the first reported comment I've had here... Comic Books has one* rule:

I disagree with your assessment of the situation.

Nearly every comment thread about comic book films are full of people saying "I don't like this" and are making no attempt to critique the author.

No one even attacks the art, they just post useless comments.

My comment is that if users have feedback, supply that feedback. They never do. They just complain. Any legitimate complaint or reasonable discussion is fine, but that isn't what happens.

You've made your decision and that's fine but I would suggest you look at it again.

Criticism is valid and encouraged.

Corporations shouldn’t be allowed to do whatever they want without criticism or judgment.

Their use of funds to wallow in past franchises instead of making original stories and characters is legitimate criticism.

Just because of you are a butt hurt fanboy that doesn’t like criticism doesn’t mean every person needs to suck Hollywood and Marvels cock.

Also using the over abundance of superhero movies to justify the few good projects is ridiculous.

None of these posts are criticism. If someone has a critical thought go for it, instead it's just people butthurt that something someone else likes is coming out.

"I don't like this" isn't criticizing, it's whining. You could argue what I'm saying is more whining but at least I followed it up with, you know, a thought.

If two people are talking in a room about something, and having an actual conversation, and then 10 people show up and just spout "I don't like that, no follow up" EVERY FUCKING TIME it's annoying.

I like candy, I hope this new candy bar is good.

I don't like candy. Candy is bad. I want different candy. Candy bad. I ate candy once and didn't like it.

Fuck off.
