St John’s is a not for profit charity though, so I guess that makes it slightly less shit

St John's has near universal acclaim in the community. I honestly never hear anything against them.

It's not so much that the government "went the private route" as that St Johns have been providing services since the 1800's. I just looked it up, the city ambulance service started in 1922 - over 100 years ago. So, it's more that we already had a perfectly good ambulance service and the government has never needed to replace it.

That was not a dig on them or their staff. That was just my opinion that private health services are generally shit (shit THAT they're privatised, and not necessarily shit as an entity).

Personally, I consider any ambulance service not run by the health department or another branch of government to be private, regardless of how long they have existed.
