Hello! I'm relatively new to the Fediverse, and still getting to know how it all works as a long-time lurker from Reddit. I've noticed that some posts and comments have censorship, where the b-word, r-word, and others are replaced with "removed" regardless of context. I was wondering if that is a setting I missed, or determined by being on the *.ml instance, or otherwise. Additionally, I've noticed that I don't have access to the same communities as my friends on *.world, and was curious if there was a list of differences or communities that might be censored for some reason. Any tips on where to go to figure this out would be super appreciated!

Censoring slurs is a choice made by your instance, not currently a setting users can change. If it’s not something you want done to your comments you’ll have to make an account on a different instance.

To see what instances are defederated (blocked) by your instance, check https://lemmy.ml/instances The content from these instances isn’t really removed by .ml admins, it’s just never sent to the .ml servers to begin with.

You can also view your instance’s mod log here to see what has been removed and why.

Thank you so much! I thought it might work that way, but wasn't sure because I didn't have the right context (Helldivers community, for reference). I'll check out the links. Thank you for the fast response. If this post doesn't belong here, I can also take it down. Or a mod can, probably.
