TLDR: Indian government froze the bank accounts of an election competitor so he could not even pay the entry fee to compete. USA said that “we encourages fair, transparent, timely legal processes”. Indian governing party is offended at the accusation and summoned the US diplomat.

Yeah that's right and arrested another competitor without any evidence, based on the statement of a business owner who himself donated 6.6 million dollars to the ruling party.

"India" is not offended. Just the ruling party is. They and their bigoted followers get offended whenever they're called out on their dictatorial attitude. As for the rest of India, what's happening is detrimental to its constitution.

Ruling party is the government of India right now.

Earlier they summoned a German envoy too for criticism of the same.
