it literally exists to sell shit

Doesn't everything and everyone in one form or another?

Why eo angry at Uber? Were you a taxi owner/driver?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

What does Lemmy exist to sell?

Not everything is some capitalist bullshit.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Oh, so you're saying Lemmy is selling freedom from capitalism, and nothing remotely related to 'capitalism'' should ever be posted on Lemmy?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (2 children)

No I’m saying Lemmy is a free service and that not everything has to be about buying shit.

We get bombarded by advertisement in every cm of our lives, there’s no need for us to willing spread such evils.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

But did you think it was funny? That's why I posted it.

There is heaps of advertising etc around and I'd recommend you train yourself to ignore it. You won't be able to go outside or use 90% of the internet otherwise.

The fact this is an ad doesn't stop me from laughing at it. It's certainly not going to make me rush out and buy anything or do anything different from what I'm doing.

As soon as I saw it was an Uber ad I turned it off, I don’t care if it was funny or whatever other tactic they used to increase viewer engagement, it’s advertisement and I’m not going to waste my free time watching an ad.

But did you find it funny? You keep avoiding the question like you feel guilty about it.

Out of interest,. was it your fierce dislike of Uber, or because it's an ad, and could have been from any company?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Because its an ad. If i didnt have to get bombarded with ads everywhere I go I maybe id be more forgiving of the concept, as it stands they invade my personal life constantly. So i refuse to voluntarily subject myself or others to them.

Lemmy is not free. The user community funds the developers of Lemmy by direct donations. As for us, aussie.zone costs a little over $100/month to run. Our own generous users fund us.

While we don't need to advertise to fund lemmy, be assured that someone somewhere is paying for it.

Lemmy is free, you can download it and host it yourself. Server costs are irrelevant to the software being free.

What’s next FOSS isn’t FOSS because I have to pay electricity to power my computer?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Unless you host shitjusworks, you're not doing that.

In any case, I hope you're donating to the developers who create Lemmy. Oh, wait. That would make it not free too.

Doesnt matter mate. Its still free software no matter how much you whinge it isnt.

Im going to go download it 5 times and not pay a cent, because its free.
