None of the jokes landed for me because it didn't resemble anything that I've ever experienced in an office, while the UK version was more aligned with my experience but exaggerated.

Most corporate places won't allow you to keep pets in the office. There's no reason why an obviously incompetent worker would end up being a manager. There's a few instances in the trailer where you can easily dob management to Fair Work.

Here's what I'd change:

Manager is clearly incompetent but the reason why they're there is because their underling does all the work for them exceptionally well but doesn't get any credit. They have impostor syndrome and never think they'll be manager material. Manager has an MBA that they flout all the time.

IT is incompetent and has weird rules about what you can and can't do on the office computers. For example, no one has the internet on their PC and can only access it through an internet computer (I've actually experienced this). There's a worker in the office who's a tech enthusiast and runs rings around the IT person, acting as a thorn in their side.

HR is done unofficially by the admin team because it's a small business. They're clearly not qualified for the job and treat it more like an advice service.

And so much more...

Comedy trailers are never funny so I'm not sure you can judge its quality based on this. Like a lot of comedy is situational within an episode and based on minutes worth of build up for a big payoff. But obviously you can't show any of that in a conventional trailer so it will just be the one-liners which are always the worst bit of a comedy show and basically added to the script as trailer filler.

Having said all that, I'm not a fan of The Office or regional reboots so I'll definitely pass.

I'll be sure to double not watch it.

The youtube comments are peak internet

and for anyone that was mildly interested in what an Australian office might look like, just watch Utopia

Shall avoid, thanks for the heads up.

We already have a funny Australian version of The Office, it's called Utopia.

Don't try and beat Working Dog at Australian comedy.

Arguably a blend of Office and Yes, Minister.

It does indeed look shit.

But...

To be fair, we said that about the USA version of the office when that showed up. It turned into a cult hit after they ironed out the kinks a little.

As an office fan, I'm going to give this a chance mainly from the fact they took the idea and made it their own instead of cookie cutter copying the USA / UK version scene for scene like all the other variants. So for that fact they have sat down, put some effort in and written what could be some good comedy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

To be fair, I still say that about the American version.

Yeah, it could well take them a few episodes or even a couple of seasons to mesh.

You guys let me know if/when it gets good. Ta. 🤣

Counterpoint: American Kath and Kim.

I guess it could grow into something, but it feels like the a generic ABC “centrist” political boomer comedy written by Rob Sitch.

Counterpoint: 'ABC “centrist” political boomer comedy written by Rob Sitch' could also describe Utopia, and everyone here is (quite rightly) saying that's an excellent show.

Haha the comments on YouTube are fucking brutal:

I have been confined to a wheelchair for the past 20 years today I stood up and walked just to turn this off

Yeah, this looks so forced. A big nope from me.

I always see this exact comment on every other social media post pertaining to this show. I hate people's unoriginality and desperation to regurgitate that original YouTube comment. Even saw a few "YOU SIR WIN THE INTERNET" replies on Facebook, which made it all the more frustrating.

if they played this on a plane people would walk out

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is this supposed to be funny

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

. . . I don’t know.
