Genki has officially announced Tokyo Xtreme Racer, marking its first new console racing game in 18 years. The title is set for release on PC via Steam in 2025, supporting English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.

This series, known as Shutoko Battle in Japan, began with the debut of Shutoko Battle ’94 for Super Famicom in 1994. The franchise has delivered numerous memorable titles over the years, including the Dreamcast classic Tokyo Xtreme Racer from 1999, followed by its successful sequel Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 on PlayStation 2 in 2003, and the Xbox 360's Import Tuner Challenge in 2006.

Are you a fan of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer games? What do you expect from the series revival?

I wonder if this is somewhat in response to the successful Kickstarter night-runners had.

I played the absolute mess out of TXR and TXR2 on dreamcast. Loved those games so much. I recently went back to play them again, and the simple effects to show the illusion of speed are still great. This will be one to keep an eye on, though it's hard to be optimistic anymore.

Glad to see Genki make a comeback with TXR, but also concerned since there is literally so little information at the announcement.
