"So much promise"?!

Are Greens appeasing Labor in a secret deal? This support is out of character with their stance on privacy.

For instance, Greens were the only ones to push against the "Identify and Disrupt Bill" (which newspapers ignored in favour of "Freedom" March dramas).

Ahh. Proof of age.

Gonna have to use your digital ID to verify your age to access a pr0n site.

Lol

My concern is that it requires a Google or Apple account to use the myGovID app and the app itself is proprietary:

Compare this to the Belgium eID which is open source software and available on Linux and various platforms:

Since I use Ubuntu Touch, I'm a bit frustrated with the state of government apps only supporting Android and IOS. Recently managed to finally run Android apps on it, but they still don't all work perfectly. I understand that it's not something most people know about let alone use, but I fear that if any government app becomes essential that we lock in the existing duopoly, at least in Australia. At least if it was open source it could perhaps be ported over.

The myGovID app is compatible with most smart devices and is only available from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Does it work without Google play services? The NSW app doesn't.

I'm rather disgusted with the idea of Aus government being a serfdom of Google and Apple. Literally can't access your own government ID without their permission and blessing. If Google or Apple disable your account then you can no longer access part of your government services.

(I recently lost access to a Microsoft account, they didn't think I was a real person, despite the account working fine for most of a year)

Yeah I thought we were a democracy. How come only a few people get to know how a government services app works? Doesn't sound very democratic to me!

FFS we are relying on Liberals to oppose this.

Reminds me of how Liberals opposed the Australia Card proposed by Labor in the 80's.

But this time Libs don't have the numbers. Time to lobby the Greens.
