It feels like I’m missing a reference.

This reminds me of the time someone posted some meme referencing Ea-Nasir in here, a scummy copper ingot merchant from mesopotamia. Makes me wonder if anybody knew these references because they're actually so famous and I'm just uncultured, or if they only know them because some history nerd started making memes and they somehow caught on and now everyone learned them through some explanations in the comments like I just did.

Ea-Nasir is very famous on the nerdy side of tumblr. Chrysippus too, to a lesser extent.

I think those are simply tumblr leaks tbh.

Jerma did that on a recent stream, he also said that all seleucid soldiers and officials should be killed and their wives gifted to Rome as slaves. It's honestly fucked that twitch even allowed this guy on their platform.

The tale of Chrysippus, and the oldest recorded account of an (alleged) death from laughter.

Here's the relevant part:

He died during the 143rd Olympiad (208–204 BC) at the age of 73. Diogenes Laërtius gives two different accounts of his death. [...] In the second account, he was watching a donkey eat some figs and cried out: "Now give the donkey a drink of pure wine to wash down the figs", whereupon he died in a fit of laughter.
