I hope they get Linux servers going first ... or at least continue to improve their wine support. The idle server usage is still unacceptably high

This game is a ton of fun, I love the story, I love how easy it is to re-spec your character, but the experience of base building is hot garbage.
You use raw materials to make separate building materials. Kinda cool in theory, especially because everything is laid out on a pretty fine grid, allowing for a lot of freedom in placements.
But then you get better building materials, you go from Rough Stone to Cut Stone and guess what, you have to farm 700 stone again and all your previous building materials are literal trash because you can't break them down into raw materials.
You can make bigger, better chests now? That's great! Wait, why can't I find it in the workbench menu next to the small chests? I have to talk to this other guy? Where do I find rugs? Is it my build hammer menu, the workbench menu, do I talk to the carpenter or the hunter?
It's just awkward all around.
It is early access, fine tuning resource usage isn't exactly a high priority.
It definitely is annoying but I wouldn't put it as a negative until they outright say it will never change or they go full release without changing it.
I would be fine if you could break down building materials for a 50% return on materials.
But yeah for crafting you should be able to craft almost anything from your work bench as long as the proper workstations and craftsmen are present.
I've got maybe 40 hours played, reached level 20 something.
I guess I place a higher emphasis on base building in these games and compare it to like Valheim, V Rising, or Raft. I expect it to get better (I still haven't figured out terraforming for farms) but it feels so bad to regrind for materials because I want my base pretty.
When I last played on March 1st, the workbench had a pretty limited number of things to craft when it came to base furniture (mostly had building materials). I had to initiate it by talking to the relevant craftsman. I'm okay with armor/weapons/forge type upgrades sticking with their inventories, but personally would rather have a single spot to build all my base stuff instead of having to remember who to talk to.
Smart, I'd be playing it right now if it worked properly on steam deck
Smart.
and Water! Don't forget the water!
If anyone asks if they should try the game, imagine playing the Last of US in a high fantasy world. Great stories to be found around the world.
I put 300 hours into it on Linux (Arch).
It's fairly fun, though it really felt lacking in the story department. The world had a ton of backstory on how the Shroud came to be and how the populace was impacted, but that was it. There was zero regard for why the player was awoken or what they hope to accomplish. Every quest in the game is "go get this so I can upgrade your crafting station" or "go here to find more loot". There's no survivors to rescue, no people to save, you've basically been thawed out on a desolate world.
"But it's still Early Access!" Yes, and so far 1/3rd of the game map has been revealed, and there's been zero mention of any kind of goals, like you had one quest to go investigate the keep (gosh, I hope everyone is ok), but your adventure has had zero impact on the world.
This kinda support is great for everyone because it will hopefully lead to a significant performance increase.
