i suspect that tiktok was the last best chance to break the propaganda cycle that americans keep repeating to each other; i'm going to miss having glimpses into a world were the rich don't have absolute control over our lives and can't fuck any of us over for profit with ease.

Hmm, I'm not against playing one enemy against another. The TikTok ban is a good thing on the balance. A set of privacy centric regulations like the EU has would be even better, but of course that won't happen because it would kill Facebook (and its various tentacles) and also gut Google. Regulations that prevent TikTok from being used as a spying and propaganda platform by the CCP would be better than a ban assuming it could actually be regulated, but barring that a ban is about the best we could hope for.
