You can buy it from their website DRM free, why would you want to buy it from Steam anyway?
Why wouldn't I? The game is going to be DRM free there too, so I can back up my game files in either case.
Steam: buy, download, and updates for me. Easier and more convenient than even piracy by design.
Website: doesn't integrate with my package manager, doesn't offer updates, doesn't provide me any features.

If it was on steam then your one purchase would allow you to play it on both windows and Linux.
