October 2024 Update: The [email protected] sidebar has now been officially updated with the CE wiki links.

Yarrr, fellow pirates! We are excited to announce that the c/Piracy Wiki and Megathread have recently been ported over to the new "Wiki by Zero" hosted at https://wiki.dbzer0.com/.

New links

What makes this a "community edition"?

All users of our lemmy instance at https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/ will have direct access to make edits to the wiki content, once registered. We hope that this change will help to ensure the wiki stays up-to-date and relevant.

Of course, this change also means the wiki is more open to abuse and misinformation. Any users caught abusing the wiki in this way can expect to be banned from both our lemmy server and the wiki. But don't worry, we can easily roll back unwanted changes if/when they occur. All community members are encouraged to report any undesirable edits to our lemmy instance admins or to the c/piracy mods.

Registering for the wiki

  1. Visit https://wiki.dbzer0.com/ and register for an account if you wish to be able to make edits. This is completely optional, as anyone can read the wiki without registering. To get permissions to edit articles, your wiki username must match the username you have in lemmy.dbzer0.com.
  2. After you have registered your username on the wiki, simply edit your profile in Lemmy and add the following string in your bio (where wiki_username, is the username you registered on this wiki): wiki-user: wiki_username

Once this is in place, your account will now have access to create new wiki pages and edit existing pages. Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge with the community!

Rules for contributors / editors

  • ✅ In general, follow the c/Piracy Rules.
  • ✅ Try to follow the existing markdown structure(s) so the content remains visually cohesive and logically organized. If you need guidance with that, just ask one of the mods/admins. Nobody will be penalized over inadvertent typos or markup problems - only for malicious edits (which will likely get you banned).
  • ✅ Please make sure you leave a brief description of what changes you have made on the wiki. There is a field for that in the edit tab.
  • ✅ If you want to make an edit that may reasonably be expected to generate controversy, like removing a popular site from the Megathread, please make a post in [email protected] first to gauge community response for the change. That way, anyone who is interested can have their input. Same thing applies if you want to make extensive changes to a wiki article.
  • ✅ If you aren't comfortable making edits to the wiki yourself, then please reach out to a mod/admin on our lemmy instance.

If people think it's a good idea, we can have a monthly post to solicit Wiki edits so they are all captured in one place. I'll check the comments on this post to collate any requested edits for this month.

Final thoughts

I fully expect that some people will appreciate a more community driven approach, and some people will prefer things to be done differently. That's totally fine with me - there are many privacy guides available online, including the excellent one by FMHY, and the r/piracy rentry version is still available if you prefer that one. Each to their own, right?

If you have any useful suggestions or comments to improve the Wiki, kindly leave them below.

Unruffled.

One of the most enduring online movie scams involves sites that claim to offer premium content, but turn out to be some type of scam. These services do not discriminate, so whether 'customers' are pirates or just regular people hoping to buy content, everyone is a potential victim. The scam has been running for at least 20 years yet, seemingly out of nowhere, pro site-blocking studies now describe it as a major piracy-related security threat.

Recently I decided to create a community for Kodi addons since there isn't an equivalent to the Reddit version. This community is for discussion and sharing of any Kodi addons but it's mostly about streaming addons. If you have an interest in Kodi addons, or piracy on Kodi in general I recommend subscribing to the linked community, and if you have anything about Kodi addons you want to ask, or any addons in particular you'd like to share I encourage you to post there.

For example EU based usenet providers like eweka.nl or any other debrid providers in the EU.

What will you take into consideration when choosing your next service?

My idea is that, in general, trojans aren't trustworthy for obvious reasons. But this cracker came from cs.rin.ru apparently which I DO trust.

(yes this is a win defender thing BUT I don't know if its onto something lol)

CS rin main post

Github latest release

I read something about !ml is a good sign but I am still skeptical

Despite a series of failures concerning Italy's IPTV blocking platform Piracy Shield and the revelation that the 'free' platform will cost €2m per year, telecoms regulator AGCOM insists that all is going to plan. After breaking ranks, AGCOM board member Elisa Giomi called for the suspension of Piracy Shield while decrying its toll on public resources. When she was warned for her criticism, coupled with a threat of financial implications, Giomi came out fighting.

For the past year or so, I have been fairly happy with the RD, Torrentio, and Stremio setup. I've enjoyed being able to have a mostly seamless streaming experience; just search, click, and watch with little load or wait. In the past, I've experimented with the -arr's and qTorrent setup on a local machine, but I switched to RD for the convenience of being able to spontaneously watch a show or movie (like on a date night).

With the possible (maybe likely) end of RD, I have wanted to look back again at having a personal setup, but I want to see if anyone has recommendations for a setup that is as close as possible to the current one. I know, of course, that a local setup will not have the same benefit as a massive service as RD with a huge cache of torrents ready to go, but is there a way to get close? Round off some of the sharp edges and pain points?

For those of us hit by the recent announcement here is a graph I found with some other services worth checking for your next voyages. I have crossed out All-Debrid too as that is also hosted in France and is bound to be hit by the same hammer as Real-Debrid was.

Feel free to share your alternative solutions in the comments below, but always do you research carefully!

The graph shows which Debrid services are supported by each addon for Stremio. Torbox seems to be a new popular and modern alternative. If anyone has any experience with any of the listed services then feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

Edit: Debrid-Link is also French!

Internet archive seems to only have the layout of things saved (snapshot) but not the actual contents of the page.

Example

This does not contain any of the information, just what it looked like when it was saved I believe. I am wondering if I am wrong on this.

Real-Debrid, a popular streaming and download service, says it's implementing far-reaching anti-piracy measures, including hash and keyword filters, in response to a notice from the French Federation of Film Distributors. The API and instantAvailability feature are set for deactivation too, while content from "notorious" pirate sites will be blocked.

cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/28473695

I was able to get a list of the most recent anime from aniwave using this reddit thread Goofhey made: https://old.reddit.com/r/animepiracy/comments/1f2xbg7/archived_aniwaves_12000_anime_pages_on_wayback/ and scraping all 411 pages archived in the wayback machine. Back in March I built a web scraper using python requests and beautiful soup and got a list of all of aniwaves current anime sorted in alphabetical order. I compared that list to what was most recently saved in wayback machine by Goofhey. I discovered that some anime were missing. I guess its because the pages saved by Goofhey in the wayback machine were sorted by recently updated and since recently updated is constantly changing it caused some anime to be excluded but I think I got all or most of them by combining both list. Then a using a Disqus scraper I made I fed it links from the list I made and downloaded the comments. I tested the scraper on various sites(myasiantv, gogoanime, aniwave) the scraper can most likely work on most websites that use disqus with a bit of tweaking.

I also managed to get all of Gogoanime's old comments from before 2021 going all the way back to 2014/2015. Something interesting I found is that a few copycat websites(6anime, gogoanimes) still have all of gogoanimes old comments from before 2021. I have a few questions regarding this and I would appreciate if anyone can answer them.

  1. What happened to the old gogoanime comments? and why couldnt the Gogoanime admins get them back if a copycat site was able to do it?
  2. New disqus threads for new anime are still being made with the same disqus link structure as the old comment threads how are these new threads being made?

The Aniwave(9anime) comments currently have a few problems that I will fix later:

currently missing some glitched/merged comment threads

Imgur images didn't download properly

Some images were downloaded twice(as the scraper was downloading I made changes to how images were named and ran it again)

Most commented pages on each site sorted from most(Aniwave) to least(Anitaku) amount of comments:

Aniwave(9anime): Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 3 Episode 1

Gogoanime Old comments: Yuri on Ice Category page

Anitaku(Gogoanime): Kimetsu no Yaiba Yuukaku Hen Episode 10

Folders were compressed into tarballs with zstd level 9 compression:

Aniwave(9anime): TOTAL GB UNCOMPRESSED: 69.2 GiB TOTAL GB COMPRESSED:17.4 GiB

Gogoanime: TOTAL GB UNCOMPRESSED: 84.8 GiB TOTAL GB COMPRESSED: 48.2 GiB

Anitaku(Gogoanime): TOTAL GB UNCOMPRESSED: 16.6 GiB TOTAL GB COMPRESSED: 1 GiB

Inside each of the anime folders, you will find 3 types of files that end with 'part X.json,' 'full.json,' and 'simple.json':

Part files - downloaded from disqus and unmodified and contain a maximum of 100 comments

Full - concatonated all part files

Simple - Full file with info stripped out to make more readable by human eyes

DOWNLOADS:

Aniwave(9anime) Comments: https://mega.nz/file/RfgliKJR#kV9MXkEYC-5tqS9A4ZenOMoQKKxpj_ujNadzKeu--qs

Anitaku(Gogoanime) March 2024: https://mega.nz/file/FDBngTQB#p3GMrhPpBY893GLBUJfBePwDOYsKFWmpRyarFlGWCZs

Gogoanime Comments Before 2021: Unfortunatly the compressed file size for Gogoanime is 48.2 GiB and I dont know how to share it since I ran out of free storage space. I will make another post when I figure out how to set up a torrent and also add the link here

Hey,

I'm looking for suggestions on how to efficiently transfer content to my Oracle Cloud VPS.

What I've Tried:

Telegram Bot: I set up a Telegram bot that saves files locally on the server.

Pros: Easy to use, quick access to files from Telegram.

Cons: Limited to what's available on Telegram, and uploading is slow and impractical.

aria2c: I attempted to use aria2c but couldn't get it to work properly. Is it possible that Oracle Cloud is blocking P2P communication like torrents?

What I Need:

A more convenient method to transfer content to my VPS. I haven't been able to get torrents to work, so any alternative solutions would be appreciated. Additionally, if you know of any direct download sites for content like movies and shows that don't use P2P, that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: while there are plenty of ways to get stuff from my computer to the VPS (and I'll try some of them), I thought to get things directly to the VPS. it has fast and stable internet connection, unlike my laptop.

Following a formal notice from the FNEF (https://fnef.fr/les-adherents/), Real-Debrid is strengthening its anti-piracy measures. As you already know, we actively comply with DMCA and are already blocking a certain number of infringing torrents. In the coming hours: - audiovisual files available on a number of cyberlockers listed on the USTR blacklist or listed in the European "CCounterfeit and Piracy Watch List" will all be blocked. - a filtering by file name will also be applied, in accordance with the request of the FNEF, this may unfortunately lead to false positives that we will process manually. - a blocking of all torrents hashes of private torrent trackers mentioned in cases at the Paris judicial court - a complete purge of files potentially cached on the previously mentioned criteria - the deactivation of the API endpoint /instantAvaibility - a blocking of counterfeit Kodi / Stremio applications to the extent that they are identifiable

Pantheon season 1 is being added to Netflix tomorrow, but season 2 is not (and might never be). Both seasons are on Prime Video but it is region-locked, though I'm not sure which regions it is available in.

Pantheon is a fantastic sci-fi show with really smart themes that has been completely screwed over by streaming services. The writing is incredible and contains some very intelligent satire and critiques of big tech corporations, and even dips its toes into geopolitics (not even kidding, the Israel-Palestine conflict becomes a plot point in season 2, and this was written prior to Oct. 7).

If you want to watch the series in its entirety then piracy is a must for the vast majority. Needless to say, I highly recommend watching.

Like if you want to donate to a website that maintains trackers, or files, do you take steps to make it anon, or just use paypal or whatever? If you do, how do you go about doing that?

The Patent Eligibility Restoration Act, S. 2140, (PERA), sponsored by Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Chris Coons (D-DE) would be a huge gift to patent trolls, a few tech firms that aggressively license patents, and patent lawyers. For everyone else, it will be a huge loss. That’s why we’re opposing it, and asking our supporters to speak out as well. Patent trolling is still a huge, multi-billion dollar problem that’s especially painful for small businesses and everyday internet users.

A recent study published in the Journal of University Teaching & Learning Practice sheds light on people's motivations to use Z-Library. Expensive books and limited access to academic material play a key role among those surveyed. That includes a group of Chinese postgraduate students who believe that shadow libraries help to overcome (academic) poverty.

Hi all fellow one-eyed and one-legged rum-gagglers sailors!

I like my ISO collection nicely organized and omogeneous as formats, codecs and resolution.

I know there are already pleanty of solutions like Tidarr, but i find them a bit too much for my needs, and also pretty complex to use.

I wrote a simpler approach in a bash script called "Media Fixer", the URL is at the top of this post.

Feel free to check it out, play with it. I hope it can be useful for others as well as me.

It's released under the GPLv3.

Which brands are generally more piracy-friendly? Do you suggest any specific model? Or maybe there are products that are easily customizable at the OS level? Thanks!

A new survey from Norway reveals that 50% of young people under 30 believe that pirating content is an acceptable way to save money. The survey, conducted by Ipsos, highlights that the high cost of streaming services is a key driver behind this attitude. Links between piracy and organized crime or malware, appear to be of less concern.

I have been using showrss for very long time to get a rss feed of my tv shows. unfortunately they dont support more than 1080p. I've been looking to upgrade to something that allow me to automate downloads that supports 4k and HDR releases of shows. I don't have access to any private tracker atm.

I currently use the software flexget to automate my downloading, if that is important.

what are my options?

A team of hackers from Brazil have taken first place in a hackathon organized by the country's telecoms regulator. The challenge was to develop a solution to prevent non-approved 'pirate' set-top devices from functioning in people's homes. The team say they were able to remotely transfer code which completely disabled a target device. Once implemented, "there will be a general failure in most of the irregular boxes in use," the hacker predicted.

Going to be interesting times, in a bad way. Everyone knows now in the US the newly appointed FCC chairman is going to be Brendan Carr, who is against the idea of Net Neutrality so we expect that to go away again similarly to how Ajit Pai got rid of it when he was around.

Should anyone be worried about what this guy can do? Will he carry on the fight for entertainment industry's interests?

Okay, can we focus on the subject matter instead of just devolving it into a stupid meme and treating this platform like it's reddit? Come on, grow up and I've blocked half of you already.
