my grandmother used to do it. she'd call me, ask me about my day, and then ignore and interrupt me once i began to answer her question. there are few things i can think of that were less infuriating. god rest her soul, she was a wonderful woman otherwise, but i still can't shake that feeling of worthlessness i felt whenever she did that - and she never had any idea it mattered, because i'd never dare call out my own grandma.
