May be sent to a women's prison

"Oh dear, don't tell me this is some TERF screed... Well, it could also be the opposite, right? But I'm smelling a dead dove here..."

The perpetrators were three men, two of them transgender

"Either this is a very progressive way to cover two trans men, or a very regressive way to cover two trans women."

Identifying as women

"Yahari."

[interview with some TERF calling the Norwegian state's respect for the women's gender a "parody of political correctness", accusing trans women of being men trying to sneak into women's spaces, repeatedly emphasizing how the SA was penetrative using their "male organs"

"Eugh......."

[doesn't even interview anyone who isn't a TERF, leaving that person's stances completely unchallenged]

dead-dove-2 dead-dove-3

"Yup, it's manufacturing consent time!"

This wasn't some obscure publication, either, this was Nettavisen — Norway's first online-only news publication, founded in 1996, owned by the conglomerate Amedia, with a revenue of some 171.3 mln NOK (2021), so it's in fact one of the most popular news publications in the country.

News in this country has been increasingly embracing TERFism and other transphobia. I'm getting a bit worried about it.

Ad mid roll:

I trust The Economist magazine for thoughtful analysis and [...]

i-cant "Lmao okay I guess not then."

Or they'll be discussing politics and history with an (otherwise) interesting guest when the subject broaches Marxism, and you hear the same old, first-grader, thought-terminating misconceptions about "human nature" or "works in theory". agony-acid

bruh-moment

Edit: One guy remarked that the Nazis were a result of the October Revolution, which may be technically accurate because some White Russians worked with the Nazis, but he was definitely framing it in a "communism did WWII" way.

Went to the pharmacy to pick up my meds yesterday, and they didn't have my anti-psychotic. This is my first major hurdle since being out of rehab, since drinking was the only way I coped with being without my anti-psychotic. What sucks is that this happened on memorial day weekend so I can't get this solved until Tuesday. Wish me luck y'all, it's gonna be a shitty weekend :/

But no matter how bad it gets, I'm not gonna drink about it

It's basically a Bible "End Times" movie but without the Rapture

I wasn't familiar with the right-wing Bircher paranoia that influenced Christian end-times eschatology at the time so I recognized that the cinematography was portraying the Antichrist as sinister but I couldn't figure out why he was supposed to be bad? He was uniting the world into a global democratic union and preaching cooperation and an end to war and I didn't see what the problem was supposed to be. Then he made himself dictator and started mass-executing dissidents and that felt like it came out of nowhere.

Casper Van Dien and Michael Ironside are both in them. I dunno if that's a coincidence or if the creators were fans of Starship Troopers

The US and China team up to take down the Antichrist's global dictatorship (this would never get made today lmao)

The second movie's climax is Casper fistfighting a CGI Devil

I've gotten very close, but it's repeatedly alluded me, unfortunately. I've already taken a spill into the retention pond it's swimming in, sliced up my hands, and inhaled/swallowed a bit of water that ducks and geese have been swimming in for the past week. I'd hate to have caught avian flu and still have it die. doomer

Trying to find something I can use as a net, but not having much luck. Neighbor's got a call in to some wildlife place, at least.🤞

It’s agency work, basically sent to wherever (if there’s a spot available) I have nothing from my boss for quite a while, but despite so, I am still getting paid every Friday (it just happened now) I believe it’s an error but I’m not complaining, I absolutely love it. But I fear that my boss would ask if I got paid for the weeks where I did not work. Am I overthinking this or is it best to just keep my mouth shut and deny any knowledge?

Been back to work for a week and it's already become my safe space. Not only do I need the extra hours, but I just want to get away from the shit of the house. People going off their psych meds, people who refuse to do anything for themselves, and they all expect me to pick up the slack for them. I spent my day having my phone blown up by people asking for cigarette money that I didn't have and wouldn't have given if I did, I had to stop in the middle of my work day to do a wakeup call for the person getting back on their meds today, I had to clean pretty much the entire house yesterday even though I live with 5 other people and half of them don't have jobs.

My ride is coming 3 hours late today and I thanked the fucking Lord that I don't have to deal with these people until at least 8. Sorry for the rant, these people just try their best to piss me off.

When I try and find anything in the news, it's pretty clear these videos / stories are either fake, or a misrepresentation of past events. TikTok tried to serve me like at least 4 or 5 of them the other day, and it was really weird, only because I had not heard anyone talking about. Confirmed weird when I couldn't find any news about such an event. The videos are always framed as "China breaks through Israel's blockade!" and shows a massive plane dropping supplies.

Google search returns this: https://www.dw.com/en/fact-check-did-chinese-fighter-jets-deliver-aid-to-gaza/a-72607641

But it begs the question, who is publishing this "news" and why.

I've got a friend I know from college. We where gonna do a movie night and I offered her access to my server that contains all my very legally attained media.

Said she'll have to decline because of "security concerns with work and everything". Apparently if she watches Shakma the dastardly Chinese spies will steal company secrets.

The absolute state of Americans.

I have always been a leftie, and sympathetic to socialism.

I live in a social democratic nordic country. Capitalism is the economic system.

I have thought that I should act like an economically rational entity, and make good financial decisions. Regardless of my beliefs.

I have bought an apartment with my wife, and we have started invested a significant portion in index funds to prepare for retirement in the future.

We both work ethical jobs that contribute positively to society. This was a requirement for the both of us.

Our rationalisation is that we should not sacrifice our own lives that significantly, but instead be politically active, donate a significant amount of money to the socialist party and educate people. We can contribute to change, but by not participating in the capitalist economy, we will hurt ourselves in the long run, without actually changing anything.

We have no plans of becoming "rich" by our country's standard. But the end goal is living off the pension from the government and our investments in the future.

I just feel that it is a contradictory way of living life, but we at least try to support socialist causes a lot more financially.

Basically that. I wanted to play Minecraft this summer since it’s been ages and introduce it to my kid. Didn’t realize I’d missed the deadline to migrate my Mojang account to a Microsoft one back in 2023.

I wish I could still access my old account. I really tried. But it’s lost. I could buy a new copy of the game. I could upload my old skin, the one I made myself in 2012, but it wouldn’t be the same. I won’t have my name, and I can’t claw it back from Microsoft. Worse still, the account I bought my partner when we lived apart, so we could raise pigs together, is gone as well.

Maybe I should buy some new copies. Start over, new usernames, new skins. So many things have changed since I last played. Old pastimes are subsumed by new responsibilities and new joys. Life is sedimentary like that. Some times we must accept that we can’t unearth the past.

You can catch a glimpse of my character if you look up my username. He’s what I used to be, in my favorite shirt and cardigan that no longer fit, and my favorite beanie I lost on a climbing trip. I’m glad he still has them. I like to think my and my partner’s old Minecraft avatars are still present somehow in the digital ether of Microsoft’s servers. Tending to their pigs and spaghetti minecart tracks and falling asleep together over Skype.

As much shit as I talk on my jobs, it's so fuckin lit working here. I came in on my day off to use the smoker to make a barbecue pork loin because people in the house were annoying me, and it's been nothing but good news since I've gotten here. Free mock tails at the bar all day, I got a raise, my barbecue was fucking fire, my public transit driver was hitting on me but he was cute so I gave him my number. I even convinced my manic housemate to get back on her meds. Shit is going good today, glad I came to work on my day off

We take a yearly vacation for our anniversary to the more wild area of our state and when I was driving, there were a few thoughts that came up. They're pretty obvious but I don't know who else to talk about them with.

The first one was the quality of the roads. I'm sure most Americans experience this a lot. You can tell when you enter a new county because right at the county line, the quality of the road changes. Any serious country would have some sort of nationwide standard and you wouldn't notice because the roads would all be nice. I understand that even under communism there will still be pot holes occasionally. Some areas have weather and other environmental factors that wear out the roads faster. Some roads get a lot more traffic etc. without getting into the semi vs train debate, there is also the fact that some companies just use the roads "harder" yet don't pay more into the upkeep funds. Taxing gas to fix roads just isn't enough. Also, the lane sizes differ. How isn't there a standard for that as well? Our car kept beeping at us saying I was crossing the painted line because the roads were super narrow in some places

A similar issue is cell phone coverage. Any serious country would have cell towers as a public utility instead of us having to run the risk of going to an area that has towers, but they don't work with your phone because you chose the wrong service.

Capitalism hasn't even cynically solved it by beating out other competition with actual good service. They have no incentive to.

In short, the illusion of choice sucks and the federal government should equitably distribute the road maintenance funds.

I don't know, just "thinking out loud" I guess

...And I mean everyone! Like, you talk to people, some of whom are renting right now, the rest of them are staying in apartments left behind by family members instead, and their ultimate goal in life is always "save up some money, buy a house/apartment, rent in on airbnb, quit working".

At this point, I don't even know how many people have told me this is their life plan. Every one of those people either rents or knows so many people who rent. Everyone who lives in a rented apartment every year starts complaining about how rent prices are out of control and nobody can afford it. Like:

1- How can anyone think its a stable market that won't crash in the future and allow you to retire like 20-30 years. Like, if everyone is saying that renting is way too expensive, I just think at some point people are going to leave the city because they can't afford it.

2- Or that it's an ethical sector of the economy that it's okay to profit from. You see yourself being squeezed and all you can think about is how much you want to be the squeezer (is that even a word?).

3- That wanting to be a landlord is something to be proud of and something to be very open about. Like, "Yes, I want to be a leech, I want to make other people suffer while I prosper from their work.

I understand that they are just part of an oppressive system and they don't see any other way out of it, but it is so boring and annoying to hear the 40th person tell you how they are going to buy an apartment in the center of town and rent it out to tourists.

Also I will forever remember this guy that was telling me his plan to buy an apartment and rent it like it was the smartest think anybody ever said. You could see the shine in his eyes as he was trying to phrase himself to explain me this simple trick to life, buying an apartment but instead of living in it, you rent it. He went on and on about how smart this trick was and he was going to retire in his 30s. He is not from a rich family so I have no idea how he was going to afford all that.

Despite all the negative press covfefe, I do not in fact have syphilus. The receptionist was just unskilled at reading charts, and i had a false positive.

I replaced my door lock and this roommate immediately broke it again looking for cash and dope. Now I just replaced it again and Imma go say on the phone that imma sell a bit of my stash outside her door, then slam the fridge n head out. The landlord said they can give me a new location and getting out of this ghetto is a good start.

Was at some "food trucks and beer" in the park thing near my friend's place and they had some of those hot girls in skimpy outfits who hand out like shots of energy drinks or tequila or whatever to promote the brand. Explorative I know, but also free tequila.

Anyway, one was like "holy shit you have the hugest calf muscles" (I work on my feet and do a lot of hiking), and like kept going on about it. "Damn do you run or something? It looks like you have bowling balls strapped to your legs."

And I was a bit like mob-bashful

I got a mild ego boost from that.

My coworker told me to put my presentation in OneDrive so she could do some edits. Never got those edits... but when I sent the file to the MC of the meeting (which they didn't tell me I had to do until I was literally about to step into the board room) it rolled back to an old version without warning. Burned through a lot of my presentation time trying to fix it before just going ahead with the unfinished version which had casual placeholders. I was thrown off and sweating and out of time and it was just not good. The board was nice and seemed to pity me but I know it was bad.

I had a moderate crash out on the way back to the office but my boss said not to worry about it so just trying to move past it.

Lesson learned: fuck OneDrive. I'd heard horror stories but didn't listen...
