I'd imagine something more sugary like soda is probably better but if you don't have any or don't want it, try peanut butter. I learned in rehab that proteins help with the condition. How? I have no clue but they do I found and peanuts have lots of protein.

I don't interact with the various other Lemmy instances very often. I see almost no point in it, it's just reddit. All they post is endless articles from the Atlantic or Wall Street journal. Elon musk this, orange man that, all useless, pointless posting.

Recently, their favorite flavor of slop has been the "Tiananmen square massacre". This has brought out the worst in them. We live rent free in their heads, but especially whenever a socialist government is mentioned. They all come crawling out of their basements, pushing Funko pops and copies of Hogwarts legacy out of the way of their crusty, rainbow light keyboards to claim their knowledge of a Chinese protest is infallible.

My god do they not let up either. Any rebuttal is shut down by these drones. Any mention of "what about the Americans many war crimes?" Activates their inner CIA sleeper agent, and they hit you with "commies are just whataboutism. That's all they have. Well at least we have freedom. At least we aren't committing genocide." All extremely easy to debunk claims.

Don't get me started on isr*el. They sure do love their ethnic cleansing. More so than even the loudest of American Republicans I've ever heard. To them, Gaza is all "terrorists". They should all be killed in their eyes, their only hope of redemption is "non violent protest", aka, just lay down and die. Never in my life have I seen a larger group of far right genocidal freaks than I have on Lemmy world.

It's so ridiculous, it's comical. Say something like "hey this is misinformation" and a thousand replies will hit your inbox, all from dudes that post things like "Hamas needs to be destroyed", "people who don't vote shouldn't complain about anything" and my personal favorite one "Uh actually, I support the maori MPs getting suspended for doing the haka. That stupid dance is disruptive" (Yeah, real comments, not hyperbole)

I found a video online that I want to watch. The trouble is, it's on facebook and it says you need an account to watch it. So I tried to sign up to facebook, but when it gets to a certain stage in the process it says:

What the hell? Is it me, or does this seem insanely sinister? what do they want this for?

My landlady spends all day watching right-wing news/chat programmes on TV, like GB news and all that. Today I overheard a conversation on TV, they were talking about how children of poor parents shouldn't expect society to feed them. A man phoned in to say he and his wife always fed their own kids, and the taxpayer shouldn't be expected to feed other people's kids. He said he'd travelled the world and had seen "real poverty" in other countries.

The presenter (a horrible woman, can't remember her name but whenever she's on TV she is always saying awful things) was agreeing with him.

What kind of sick, evil minds think it's OK to let kids go without food in the sixth richest country on earth? Who think it's fine to punish kids for their parents inability to feed them? Let's not forget many of these parents are in full time work but their wages are so low they can't afford rent and food.

And these conservative idiots always want to save a penny now, even if it costs pounds later. When kids become ill due to malnutrition and end up unable to work because of it, then these fuckers will be whingeing about the benefits bill.

I am sure this is what happened to me. I starved for years as a kid, and as an adult was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. A study recently came out showing that thyroid cancer can be caused by long-term malnutrition (especially selenium deficiency). Now I can no longer work. This is the real consequence of leaving children to starve.

And the idiocy of the man bringing "real poverty" in other countries has me enraged. Kids are going without food in the UK right now - that IS real poverty! I'd like to see that idiot look one of these hungry kids in the eye and say "Kids in India have it worse than you, so don't complain! It's your parents' fault you're hungry so why should I help?"

Manager: [Who has a fuck ton less responsibilities than me] "There's a lot I need to do and I need to have that report done in time."

Me: "I'm trying not to be difficult, but there's a lot going on atm. Are you going to read it on Saturday".

Me: "OK, I'll stay late on Friday to get it done."

I know that PMC people deserve the wall, but every working person I'm used to treats end of day deadlines as first thing in the morning next working day. Due on Tuesday? Ass early Wednesday is fine. Who the fuck cares? People need sleep and rest.

As I posted last year, my old ex best friend has come back into my life. He used to be cool as fuck, he was charismatic and funny and pretty progressive for 1998. But then he did was all (nearly) all beneficiaries of generational wealth do, and became a massive reactionary, conspiracy theory knobhead.

I should have listened to my not cishet white friends and dumped him asap. I definitely let him say shit that I would never tolerate with another adult. Hanging out with him felt like work. But I felt that I owed him a lot because he was there all through my nervous young man years.

Not surprisingly he's antivaxx, and into all the alternative therapies that chuds are into like ice baths and ivermectin. I help my tongue for years about his absolutely fraudulent medical business because it was convenient and easy and I was being nice. And now he's pushing me and my gf to get involved, and not in a chill way either.

I should have just treated fascists like they deserve. Sorry for letting an absolute bigot be in my life because it was convenient for me.

Seppoland is a derogatory name, particularly associated with British and Australian English, for that infamous entity bordering Mexico and Canada (for the time being). I have personally in more recent times proposed using the name Seppoland instead of USA in order to highlight e.g. how Seppoland only serves the interests of its ruling class and doesn't speak for average Americans.

This, however, creates the issue of how to actually translate the name Seppoland, given that not every language actually has all that many comparable derogatory names for the Great Satan. Norwegian doesn't have any comparable names that I'm aware of, and so I worked out a few ideas for how to adapt the name Seppoland:

1. Seppoland (no changes)
2. Seppeland (changing one vowel so that it flows better)
3. Zeppeland (respelling of the previous as a pun on Zeppelin, as in something big, associated with Nazis, and doomed to collapse in a spectacular inferno.)
4. Søppeland (changing the vowels as a pun on søppel 'trash', better conveying the origin of Seppo in septic tank as rhyming slang for Yank.)

Each of these options may have their own cons as well, but could still easily coexist. I feel like the safest option is probably just Søppeland, though, because I can't identify any potential problems with it. This means that a Seppo would be en søppe in Norwegian and a Seppolander would be en søppelending.

But how about in your own languages?

Should I start using Mapquest because of this? I'm sure they'd sell out my geolocation data just as fast as Google. But at least I don't have to see the Gulf of not Mexico.

I'm hitting 6 months of unemployment and funds are running dry. My journey into becoming a Stock Marxist is going... ok I guess? I'm learning a lot and know so much more than I did in December, but the money isn't there to prove it.

So I'm looking for something to do that will not make me go insane. I had a temp job that ended in November, and before that I was working in a Software Dev role that caused my autistic self a lot of grief. My mind was in a dark place. It still is kind of there TBH.

I don't want to get back into software. The tech changes too much, the frameworks methodolies and endless meetings are frustrating, AND because everyone was told to "learn to code" I have close to 0% shot my resume gets picked out of a pile of 1000s of other applicants. I've been branching out into more data analysis/database type work and there's an AI tool I'm paying for to automate applying. I know it's not what I'm supposed to do, but I also know spending all day filling out job apps is not where I want to be either.

What other options are out there? Things I'm considering:

Rover (pet sitting)

Data Annotation (AI training)

Flipping things I can find for free or at thrift stores?

Fiverr? Help people with their WordPress sites or something...

IDK, any other ideas?

I have escaped the burger riech!

I've found myself in the rather interesting position of it being cheaper for me spend my life backpacking the world then trying for any quality of life in the US. So for the foreseeable future that's what's I'm going todo!

I'll be landing in Prauge in a couple hours. I have no real itinerary so I'll probably be there for a week or so before i wander onto the next place. If anyone has some must see ideas Czechia let me know!

Once again, personal information is kept to a minimum.

Anyway, the "Alex" that I mentioned before has only gotten worse.

A few things that happened beforehand before the REALLY bad thing I will mention:

• They researched the situation in Britain and now support their far-right. They say that Britain should control their borders because "they are letting in Muslims who hate Christians and want to kill them." (Previously, they saw news coverage of Palestine on TV and said "Just blow that country away." They also told a little child that was there that the Palestinians "beheaded 40 babies" (which is now widely debunked and even considered manufacturing consent for genocide) and the kid said "40 babies? We gotta get (cartoon character they like) to get them!")

• They said that "Germany is getting taken over" by claiming that they were requiring women to wear headscarves. I have not found any evidence for this.

• We saw graffiti and they "joked" that "an illegal immigrant did it." I said that it wasn't funny and they got furious and told me to "take a joke." I even told them to go talk to their therapist about it and they said "they have more important things to talk to."

And, boy, here it is:

There was a murder (location I will not name) where a person killed multiple people over a property dispute. I am trying to keep specific details about the murder to a minimum to preserve my privacy.

The first red flag was Alex stating that the victims were "illegal aliens." I asked them how they know, and they just said that they were Mexicans and that "they probably came here illegally." No evidence whatsoever provided. There is no evidence at the moment of the immigration status of the victims.

Alex said that they felt sorry for the perpetrator over reports of their side of the property dispute, and stated that the victims' deaths were "unfortunate" (not even horrible, just "unfortunate") but that "the [victims] shouldn't have treated the [perpetrator] like that."

I asked them if they could at least settle the conflict peacefully in court. They just said "maybe" or something like that. Not even "yes, they definitely should have." Just "maybe."

They also said that the perpetrator's family should sue the victim's family and even call ICE.

I got furious and argued with them. I said that I believed they were trying to justify the murder and that they sympathized with the perpetrator not because they were wronged (or at least that is reported, details aren't fully known), but because the victims were Mexican. And I said that was unacceptable. They, of course, also got furious and threatened to walk away (they didn't).

These are all the details I can remember.

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier in a comment, I am currently unable to leave this situation, although I will soon be able to in around a couple weeks I believe.

This is a scary development. I am scared of what they will further devolve into if they do not change.

I will make it clear when I am able to leave that, if they do not change, they will not be able to see me again.

Holy fucking shit it's like talking to a brick wall. These people are seemingly incapable of understanding who "pirates" and why they "pirate". I keep trying to explain that if I were to make a game, I wouldn't give a damn if people pirate because I just want people to enjoy the game. If people can afford it, cool, share among your friends!

I swear to god these nerds can't understand the corpo isn't "losing revenue" when someone pirates. They either weren't going to buy the game anyway or someone is just trying it out...

Hell yeah.
Neighbor of two weeks approached me for some plumbing repair work at his house recently. We got to talking about a lot of things; where he immigrated from (he is Viet) general outlook on the neighborhood, that sorta shit.

Talking to him, i could sorta tell where his politics lie, but he was hiding his power levels i think because of how i present visually- beard, overalls, gray hair; i look like a old guy who listens to fox news probably.

I took a chance and just told him, my politics are not fleshed out well, but i lean further left than democrats. We talked some about his girlfriend who plans to immigrate to the US if she can (she is in Dagestan), which brought up more conversations (he speaks english, vietnamese, and some russian) i listened to him talk about his upbringing, leaving Saigon when he was six months old.

I hold no fantasies of creating a neighborhood cabal or anything like that, im just so thrilled to have a neighbor who holds similar outlooks to myself. I might have sqealed at some point i was so stoked. He has a much better grasp on theory than i do, and i look forward to asking stupid questions of him so that i can flesh out how i view the world.

I just wanted to share this somewhere.

One commonality between the spaces that exist in the back rooms are ones that emulate doctors offices, malls, corridors, pools, playgrounds, etc. all of these are either public or pseudo public spaces (like big box stores). Also there is a nostalgic quality to them, they all exist in a “built in the past” sort of context.
