I once heard John Landis say that he had to record the singing from Aretha Franklin and James Brown live on the set of The Blues Brothers because they never sang a song the same way twice. After watching this performance, which I missed when it was originally on, I think George Michael was the same way.

“Prom Queen” is the title song from Beach Bunny’s EP Prom Queen. The song was initially released in 2018 but rose to popularity from the popular video app TikTok in 2020.

The song itself is the inner monologue of a girl struggling to accept herself for who she is; it follows the girl as she changes herself to fit the societal ideal of beauty.

The message of this song is to remind the listener (who is most likely a young woman, seeing as Beach Bunny’s genre is self-proclaimed “sad-girl” music) to not change themselves to get people to like them and to learn to be happy with who they are on the inside, because the relationships they form from being beautifully, uniquely, and totally herself will be more rewarding and they will feel more “okay.”^[[1] https://genius.com/Beach-bunny-prom-queen-lyrics]

Title edit: spacing

“life Imitates life” by quannnic is a song that delves into the profound concept of how our existence is intertwined with the art and stories we encounter.

The title draws inspiration from the philosophy of anti-mimesis, championed by figures like Oscar Wilde, who argued that life often imitates art more than art imitates life.^[[1] https://genius.com/Quannnic-life-imitates-life-lyrics]

Lyrics^[[1] https://genius.com/Berwyn-who-am-i-lyrics]

"WHO AM I" by BERWYN explores themes of identity, struggle, and the cyclical nature of life experiences. The song reflects an internal battle between highs and lows, revealing the artist's journey to self-understanding amidst external pressures and personal challenges. BERWYN grapples with questions of self-worth and belonging while also addressing broader societal issues of loneliness and mental health. The chorus encapsulates the idea of a repetitive cycle, a journey that can feel both dizzying and unending.^[[2] https://www.songtell.com/berwyn/who-am-i]

A Rap-A-Lot pack of rappers bringing it on about murder, drugs, sex, etc.

Note that Scarface is the only Geto Boy to appear on this song.^[[1] https://genius.com/Geto-boys-bring-it-on-lyrics]

“Bring It On” dives deep into the underground gangsta rap scene, with lyrics that explore themes of murder, drugs, sex, and the harsh realities of life in the streets. Each verse brings its unique perspective, adding another layer to the narrative and showcasing the raw talent of the individual artists involved.^[[2] https://beatcrave.com/w2/the-meaning-behind-the-song-bring-it-on-by-geto-boys/]

Usurper is the second single off of NXCRE & The Villains' upcoming album; “FEAN IS WAR''

Usurper tells the tale of a young boy destined to be crowned king by God. Only to start doubting his abilities and fearing the position of power due to imposter syndrome. The story ends with the boy coming to terms with his responsibilites and grabbing the metaphorical sword of justice. It’s a story of doubt, faith, overcoming mental burdens and a final triumph against one’s self. The only real opponent in our lives.^[[1] https://genius.com/Nxcre-usurper-lyrics]
