I recently started messing around with ActivityPub, Mastodon and Lemmy and created LemmyLink, an open-source bot that seamlessly bridges Reddit and Lemmy. Triggered by the phrase “LemmyLink!” in a Reddit post title, body, or comment, the bot automatically creates a corresponding post on your chosen Lemmy instance. This allows Bidirectional post and comments between Reddit and Lemmy by triggering a Reddit bot.

Feel free to play around with it on r/LemmyLink. Simply include "LemmyLink!" anywhere in your post title, body or comment on the LemmyLink sub. This is setup on my own Lemmy instance lemmylink.com currently not federated and marked as a bot to avoid spamming the Fediverse.

There are some pros and cons to bridging communities but I think if done with transparency and user opt-in it could serve as an interesting way to bring more users in to the Fediverse. But, I'm curious what others think.

There is a big difference between mild NSFW and full on porno. Suppose there is a News story with photo/video but it's a little bit graphic or violent. Nobody is jacking off to that. Maybe shouldn't view it at work, but in the library is fine.

Maybe it's a funny meme pic but there's a nip slip situation going on. No biggy; it should probably be tagged NSFW. Probably don't want it showing up at actual work. But I want to enable this kind of content away from work without a bunch of actual porn showing up in my feed.

There should be a porn tag. It's not the same as NSFW.

EDIT: The two main devs have done some amazing work here, but as I understand it they are totally booked for the foreseeable future. My rust chops aren't quite up to snuff (yet) and my frontend chops are non-existent, so it might be a quite while before I'm up to speed enough to make a meaningful contribution. In the meantime just thought I'd point out the issue.

Please. Captcha by default. Email domain filters. Auto-block federation from servers that don't respect. By default. Urgent.

And yes, to refute some comments, this publication is being upvoted by bots. A single computer was needed, not "thousands of dollars" spent.

I was recently approached by a user claiming to be the developer of Sync for Lemmy who wanted to be a moderator of the community I created, !syncforlemmy.

I was able to verify this user was indeed LJ Dawson as I knew where to contact him on Discord.

It is quite possible that an impostor user on another instance may be created, for example [email protected] could easily be made.

Should Lemmy have a verified user marker for members who are of importance to any given community? Are there any other options to protect users against nefarious persons playing impostor?
