Since I can't pin @[email protected]'s comment:

The article is new. However, it is about ESC 2024 rather than yesterday's event.

@[email protected] It would indeed be great if you could avoid throwing around such accusations. There surely is a time & a place for such but ...

  1. From my outsider's POV, I don't know if I agree with the argument that this is just a diversion measure. However, politicians regularly perform media-attention sleight of hand of that sort, so it's imo at least a somewhat credible argument.
  2. If you do notice a pattern, it would be great if you could DM this mod account first.

Thanks!

Thanks! For the record, I don't doubt it and it was on German news as well. The rule exists to protect us against people posting old/miscontextualized pictures -- again, to be clear: I don't think you were doing that at all.

Please remove the insult, thanks.

@[email protected] Given the circumstances, could you editorialize the title a little, i.e. "EU preparing to impose much higher tariffs on imports from Ukraine" or similar?

Ftr: The original FT article that gives a bit more detail.

shrugs Either not answering or answering in English seems like an option. I do understand that the latter feels weird though. But helping/allowing threads of German-only comments to form, unrestricted, is going to make this place markedly worse for anyone who does not speak German.

This is very late and I am letting it stand, but please note [rule] 10 we have here on the Lemmy community:

Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

The CLOUD Act and Patriot Act contradicting GDPR is the reason why the EU needed the various Privacy Shields to give some legal basis for declaring data transfers to the US legal.

And no, most people don't encrypt their data before uploading to US cloud providers. That's the issue.
