I know it's a bit different from the typical movie review/analysis but thought this was an interesting take on a great Thanksgiving day classic.

I am trying to install Linux (Fedora KDE spin specifically, but this problem is probably not distribution related) on an older Acer Switch 3 (SW312-31P) tablet. The installation always fails when trying to setup grub with "failed to set new efi boot target". Grub shows up when I boot the device, however only UEFI fimware setting is present in the GRUB menu. I repartitioned the whole internal drive as GPT added ext4 partition to be mounted at /, swap partition and FAT32 EFI partition to be mounted at /boot/efi and even told the Fedora installer to reformat it as EFI, however the result is still the same. I think the problem lies somewhere within the EFI firmware of the device itself, because when I run

sudo efibootmgr -v

Does anyone know what does this mean? I tryed asking Generative AIs, however they would usually advice me to remove faulty entries with some command that wouldn't work (usually using the efivar utility which would at least list all the variables without throwing an error).

I tryed using the "load optimized defaults" option in UEFI settings. That didn't help. I have secure boot disabled.

On start grub prints out "checking media [fail]" before showing boot options.

A federal judge on Friday rejected the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's request to sanction Elon Musk after he failed to appear for court-ordered testimony for the regulator's probe into his $44 billion takeover of Twitter.

U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley in San Francisco said sanctions over Musk's Sept. 10 absence were unnecessary, after the world's richest person testified on Oct. 3 and agreed to pay the SEC's $2,923 of travel costs.

"Because the present circumstances forestall any occasion for meaningful relief that the court could grant, the SEC's request is moot," Corley wrote.

The SEC had sought a declaration that Musk violated a May 31 court order to provide testimony.

It said having only to repay travel costs would not deter many other people from ignoring court orders, "much less someone of Musk's extraordinary means."

Two groups – the Alliance of Small Island States and the Least Developed Countries – have thrown down the gauntlet at a meeting. They’ve now said they want a guaranteed 30% of climate finance, and then walked out of meeting room three.

Speaking with journalists after walking out, representatives from Sierra Leone and Samoa expressed their frustrations with talks. “We have just walked out. We came to this Cop for a fair deal. After catastrophic floods engulfed Valencia last month, killing more than 200 people, it might seem counterintuitive to think about water shortages. But as the torrents of filthy water swept through towns and villages, people were left without electricity, food supplies – and drinking water. “It was brutal: cars, chunks of machinery, big stones, even dead bodies were swept along in the water. It gushed into the ground floor of buildings, into little shops, bakeries, hairdressers, the English school, bars: all were destroyed. This was climate change for real, climate change in capital letters,” says Josep de la Rubia of Valencia’s Ecologists in Action, describing the scene in the satellite towns south of the Valencian capital.

In the aftermath, hundreds of thousands of people were reliant on emergency tankers of water or donations of bottled water from citizen volunteers. Within a fortnight, the authorities had reconnected the tap water of 90% of the 850,000 people in affected areas, but all were advised to boil it before drinking it or to use bottled water. Across the region, 100 sewage treatment plants were damaged; in some areas, human waste seeped into flood waters, dead animals were swept into rivers and sodden rubbish and debris piled up. Valencia is on the brink of a sanitation crisis.

But while Garriga and other Catalans have been suffering water shortages in recent years, there’s one group of people that appears to be immune, and even profits from them: the multinational companies extracting millions of litres of water from the very same land. This isn’t just a Spanish issue – across the world, from Uruguay to Mexico, Canada to the UK, many have begun to question whether private corporations should be allowed to siphon off a vital public resource, then sell it back to citizens as bottled water.

Elon Musk [who promised to fire government employees en masse through DOGE, the new Department of Government Efficiency to be created by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump] has taken his animus to another level by cruelly singling out an individual federal employee named Ashley Thomas, who works a relatively obscure job at the US International Development Finance Corporation, to be harassed online.

Things kicked off when a popular right wing account ridiculed Thomas in a tweet, writing, "I don't think the US Taxpayer should pay for the employment of a 'Director of Climate Diversification (she/her).'"

Musk quoted the post with a dunk of his own, effectively inviting his hundreds of millions of followers to join in on harassing this random government worker.

"So many fake jobs," Musk wrote in the tweet, which now has over 200,000 likes.

Seemingly, the billionaire culture warrior saw the word "diversification" and thought "diversity," "DEI," or some other form of "wokeness" — his favorite punching bags — as did his many followers.

"You aren't getting rid of all the good jobs are you?" replied one of his courtiers. "I just applied for Chief Climate Gender Diversification Administrator."

Aside from the harassment and the abhorrent massacring of comedy on display here, this is a truly bizarre job to single out.

The work of climate diversification, a subset of economic diversification, does not involve sitting around at the office and inventing pronouns or whatever Musk is imagining, but to develop strategies to reduce the impact of climate change on various sectors of the economy, especially agriculture. If certain food crops end up failing, for example, diversifying what we grow ensures that we don't all literally starve. But Musk and his cronies clearly heard the job and thought it sounded like out-of-control wokeness.

At any rate, Musk clearly knows what he's doing here by making that tweet. And if he doesn't, he's an idiot.

In the past, Musk disparaged Twitter's former head of trust and safety Yoel Roth by more or less implying that he was pedophile, which his followers capitalized on by sending him death threats. So intense was the onslaught of hate that followed that Yoel felt forced to flee his home.

That, and this latest episode, are a testament to the power of even just one tossed-off post by Musk — who now tweets as if it's his job.
